Petition to Withdraw from the BIG

If Mr. Delany won't let us play in the CBI let's join the Big 12!!...oh wait that's a terrible idea...if I see one more person saying "Fire Barta" or "Withdraw from BIG" or "Barta sucks because of this" or "How is that the BIG's decision to make!?!?" or, the clubhouse favorite for ridiculous CBI ideas, "Fran should leave Iowa to prove a point!!!" or any other crying I'm going to have to go become a Kirkwood fan or something. Would I like to see Gatens and co. in a post-season? Yes. However if the BIG has an issue with that tournament, it is certainly not worth ruffling any feathers over this...it's the stupid CBI.

We will live without it, and as others have said the whole "more practice time!!" argument is invalid...this isn't football...by this time of year most "good" coaches are cutting practice time WAY down anyways and just trying to be more efficient in use of time as to keep players "fresh".

It isn't Barta's decision and he's just trying to polish this turd. Relax and settle down.
 


I for one agree with Barta.

I'm not saying that we're better than the CBI, because we're clearly not. But I am saying that part of being in a conference that distributes money equally is doing some things for the greater good. And, I don't think you can make a legit argument that aligning a Big 10 team with mid majors from across the country is a good look for the conference.
 




People need to figure out that everything doesn't rotate around Iowa City. If the Big Ten isn't in favor of having their teams playing in the CBI they aren't going to change their mind because a few Iowa fans and Matt Gatens don't like it.

Does the B1G control our decision to go to the CBI??? If so, that does suck. Too much control for Delaney.

Personally, I do not see why we would not join either of the tournaments - assuming they would take us over higher rated teams. Any tournament is worth playing in, for this young Hawkeye team.

The CBI would cost us $60,000. If they went with a low ticket price, that would only be about 2,000 - 3,000 seats to sell. Heck, the consessions alone would pay for the thing. Not to mention TV revenue. Totally worth it to see more Hawkeye basketball!!

I don't understand how playing in this tournament impacts the conference financially. Iowa has to pay to play, and we would be footing that bill, not the conference. And any money we make by playing gets evenly distributed. How is that negatively impacting the conference from a financial standpoint? The only "greater good" here (if you want to call it that) is that the conference doesn't want a team in the CBI because it might negatively affect its image. Which is ridiculous.

I think you're missing the big picture...this whole thing has something to do with HDNet in my opinion....

That is the greater good, and it is the furthest thing from ridiculous.

The B1G is a major brand, and you need to protect that brand. Aligning yourself with a bullcrap tournament is beneath the conference.

It may not be beneath us, but we are part of the conference, and we get way more out of that association than the conference gets out of us.
 




So the Delaney will kick Iowa out for playing in this tournament? Any and all reasons to keep Iowa out of this tournament is ridicules.

No, what's ridiculous is the idea that playing in this tournament actually has a negative impact on the conference's image. Nobody knows that the ACC and Big East have had teams play in this tournament. It goes completely unnoticed on the national scene. So how is that any more harmful than not playing anywhere, when it comes to the conference's image?
 


If Delany doesn't want Iowa getting its a$$ kicked by the Southeast Western Division Athletic Union Hardware and Pay 'n Pumps of the world, maybe Iowa shouldn't play a non-conference schedule either...
 




then let Delaney put the pressure on the NIT to get Iowa in, if he doesn't like the idea of Iowa playing in the CBI, Iowa did finish in a tie for 7th in the strongest conference, and has a winning record overall

Um...see "Little Caesar's Bowl", "Ticket City Bowl", "Astro Bluebonnet Bowl", "Garden State Bowl" and a few others. The Big 10/Big Ten/B1G has done 'em all.

And as soon as those bowl games are pitting B1G teams against teams like SUNY Buffalo, Miami (OH), New Mexico, Fresno State and Sophie Newcomb, you'll have an argument.
