Peter Jok Not Drafted

Jok comes back to town on December 1. Just might go to see that one. Something to get me out of the house in the Winter.....

Gonna have to check the roster before the game to see if he will make the trip. One would think that he would have friends/family from the DM area to pay their respects.....

He had about 20 or so friends and Family in attendance.

Here’s from tonight against the Iowa Wolves

I know the defense is pretty much nill in this league but he looks like he has improved his game some. His first step on his hesitate and drive was nice - I don't remember him utilizing that as a Hawk.

I was thinking after last year he would get discouraged and regress but doesn't appear to be the case. He may have a shot at making a roster one day after all.

Defense was similar to what you see in the NBA regular season. Guys will get after it sporadically but the majority is filled with what I call passive defense. Where a guy mostly plays defense inside of his wingspan. If your feet and eyes don't have you in correct position then you are beat. There isn't a lot of closeout hustle or hustle to correct poor positioning. Guys definitely aren't diving on the floor for loose balls or banging in the paint.

The NBA and any semi pro outfit have just adapted the play style that allows for offensive production with minimal amount of injuries. It's just a different game. Only in the playoffs do you see the defensive effort of the past. In 20 years from now the majority of living basketball fans will barely even know what defense has been like before and they won't be critical of it because they won't know what they are missing.

Jok's movement without the ball is fun to watch. He's always moving with the ball handler to create a passing lane. Combine that with his quick release and he's a guy you cannot leave. If he can stay healthy he may be able to carve out a career as a 3pt specialist for somebody.

Since defense is a lost art, for the most part in the NBA, one would think that there would be a spot on the team for someone who could provide instant offense. Once Jok would get comfortable in the role, he just might be a positive factor.....

Defense is truly a lost art, especially in NBA. I miss early ERA of basketball where there's always fistfight.
