Peter Jok New Video

I have watched Pete play in person several times since he was 14. He can drive. He can shoot. He can defend. He can score...not much can be done to stop him on offense unless he stops himself.

Look back at my posts over the last 2 to 3 years and I have repeatedly said not to sign Pete. He's had issues with his back and knees. However, Iowa now has depth and talent on the roster. I am thrilled Pete is going to be a Hawk. He's worth the health risk considering his level of talent.

I have seen a lot of extremely good Iowa high school players over the years. IMO Hinrich and Barnes are the 2 best. I believe both are better than Pete but only because of their leadership skills and effort every second they are on the floor. I believe Pete has the same level of talent...when healthy. IMO Pete is more talented than Collison, Oliver and Horner were in high school...to name 3 pretty solid high school players.

Take it for what it's worth. Criticize if you are so inclined. This is just one guy's opinion.

I continue to look at Jok from this light; he will come in and be just as good of an option as Oglesby is from the perimeter. If Iowa gets any more than that, it's pure bonus.

I'm really starting to think Josh might end up as good as Matt or better. His 3 from the corner to beat the shot clock was sick. You can noticeably see when he gets confident and when he does he is a better ball handler and better passer then Matt ever was. If he can consistently play with confidence he will end up our 5th starter this year.

I wonder how recent this video was made? I have seen one where he looked bigger, more muscular, more mature, where he was going to the hole much more.

Can't teach a natural stroke like Pete has...along with his size and length,it is a great place to start when building a Big Ten player. I am excited to see how he looks in a year. His shot reminds me of Luol Deng, who has one of the great mid-range jumpers in the NBA.

Pete and Luol are cousins.

I don't know if there will every be a more interesting Hawkeye recruit. That is, unless he shows he is completely back or gets injured again during his senior year.

The upside is huge, but so are the question marks.

I believe Jok's first game is Nov 17th??
I don't think that this can be true. That's the first Friday after the state allows practice to start and it's before the first legal playing date. It is possible that they are scrimmaging or that they are playing in some sort of Jamboree that night.

Im always skeptical of videos that are all jump shooting. His shot looks good but no way to tell how high a percentage he shoots.

The fact there are no drive and finish plays in a highlight video of a D1 recruit playing against non college bound players is not very exciting.

He's basically just shooting around at the Y. There is zero defense being played on him, they didn't even get a hand in his face. bunch o slow-assed white boys defending him.

Right. I think it's a Jamboree

This is how I view Jok as well. Look at Diebler from OSU. Now he was a 52% 3-pt shooter, which is unreal, but if Oglesby and Jok can touch 45% and just play colorable on-ball defense (although Fran switches to zone as needed, too), then there will be plenty of minutes and a role open for those guys, even as we get more athletic as a team.

The fact we're even thinking about Jok possibly also re-gaining elite-level athleticism and above-the-rim finishing ability is absurd (in an excellent way). If that portion doesn't pan out, he'll still see the floor quite a bit for Iowa.

I believe it all comes down to his health. If he stays healthy, I think Fran makes sure he works his butt off to get back. If he doesn't, well, that's just a bummer.

The comparison was more about his hustle and perceived effort.

Melsahn kind of goes hard when he feels like it and other times he looks like he could'nt care less.

There is no question Jok can shoot but what i don't see is him hustling to get back down the floor after the shot. Granted, i've only seen 3 highlight videos.

Hard to tell anything from these videos. The competition looks like freshman B team and Jok is clearly not being challenged.

Not sure why you would put these as "highlights."

Thats one way to look at it.

Im not sure Fran would be offering Josh again at this point if he only had one ship to give.

Jok is so smooth he doesn't appear to be hustling. He looks like a man among boys. He doesn't have to break a leg so to speak. Not certain why he would be compared to Basabe, who rarely makes a jump shot.
Jok is a pure shooter. His jump shot is smooth and he can get open with little difficulty. He is the Goods and will help the team tremendously.

Kinda surprised by the negative comments after seeing this video against Johnston, his peers that is......

His talent is overwhelmingly obvious......

Josh will be a very important factor this season. His importance to the program is enormous. He was the first elite player from Iowa to commit before Fran's first season started. It turned things around. Now the elite Iowa players will stay in state. Josh was an important factor in getting Gesell and Woodbury to come to Iowa. He was a diplomat helping to convince them to come. One of the first practice sessions before the first game of Fran's career at Iowa, Jok was sitting next to Oglesby watching the practice......

Josh and Jok will be sharpshooters for the Hawks among others. we wiill be able to score in a variety of ways.....

That's right. Everyone forgets Josh was a top 150. He got the ball rolling in locking down the borders.

I think Jok was a perfect signing for a kid class. Has HUGE upside if healthy, maybe even top 50 talent. Even if he doesn't pan out, at least he will always be a good shooter. Plus with players like Clemmons and Ingram who don't look to be great outside threats, Jok can complement those players.

Great post, Jack. Couldn't agree more.
