Did I miss the press release on this? Drove past Kinnick yesterday and saw that there are permanent lights installed.
When did this happen?

I guess not everybody has your encyclopedic memory, Gravy.
Or superior Google-using know how.
I think everyone was duped a bit. Iowa will still needs to bring in Musco for night games. Those lights are permanent, but not enough for an actual football game. I believe they were installed for practice purposes. More permanent lights are a possibility in the future.

The BTN or ABC or ESPN pays for all lights during night games, so its not a cost/benefit thing related to additional night games as theorized by JM in the previous thread.
I wonder if the networks take into consideration whether or not they have to pay lighting fees when scheduling a prime time game. I know they're mostly concerned with viewership, but if it tips the scale at all, the extra expense of installing "game" lights would have been well worth it in my opinion. Prime time games can do nothing but help recruiting.
Great, so they F-ed up the look of Kinnick WITHOUT getting the benefit of actual game lights.
This is an example of why "compromise"...is not always the best solution.
