6 Best and Worst College Football Coaches' Contracts | Bleacher Report
Note the last line of the comment on KFz's contract.

No, Mandel specifically pointed out that he was grading on recent on field performance only.
A few years ago when mandel had KF as his #3 top coach, KF was making big bucks then also.
Salary does not enter into his critieria.
And Bleacher Report once again proves how worthless they are....with this kind of crap analysis.
If KF wins 10 games this year, then they will be saying he is a bargain.
Suggesting that KF would tank the season to be fired so he can collect the buyout....wow...KF has more integrity in his little finger than these guys and all those coaches put together.
The only thing Mandel was getting at was being the blogging equivalent of a shock jock...and on that front, Mission: Accomplished.

Epic fail of a post. What do you mean Mandel only refers to on-field performance and not salary. Here's what he said in the article.
Kirk Ferentz, Iowa. The 2009 Orange Bowl proved an aberration in Ferentz's otherwise unimpressive recent tenure. Take away that one 11-2 season and the Hawkeyes are 47-41 since 2005 under their $3.6 million-per-year coach.

Here's what he said on twitter.
Stewart Mandel @slmandel 8 Jul Kirk Ferentz's inclusion on today's worst coaches list drawing by far the most backlash. Iowa fans apparently OK w/ $3.6M/yr to go 4-8
Show me where Mandel cited KF's salary as part of the reason that he considers him one of the 5 worst coaches in the country?
Mandel specifically indentified KF's record on the field(sans the Orange Bowl championship year with a school record 11 wins) the last 5 years as his reason for including KF.
Mandel is getting rightfully ripped by commentors from all over the nation on his KF inclusion, not just Iowa fans. KF was getting paid the same amount when Mandel included him as his #3 top coach in the country,so clearly, salary is not a factor one way or another in his criteria.
Saying KF is not trying to win, complacent, or not working hard is ridicurous. D1 college football coaches work 20 hours a day man. They are all fully vested in winning and extremely driven individuals. We have these claims/ posts reguraly and they are just dumb.
What you post is true.
But it cannot be underestimated that in spite of any pressure to win (or lack thereof) at the end of the day Kirk Ferentz knows before this contract expires he is going to make at least 17 (if fired) to 27 million dollars regardless of how many games he wins. Its human nature with having that kind of security within the framework of making that kind of money that someone's desire to succeed and the corresponding work required will be less.
True, unless he wants to move on or up in the ranks. What he does in the last 7 years of contract will affect his potential career opportunities.
Are you kidding or are you actually serious? Mandel provides no specific criteria overall, but does talk about Ferentz's record and his salary in his one liner. Then tweets about last year's record and salary earned. Your reading comprehension must be terrible. Show me where Mandel doesn't mention salary.
If that's Mandels standard is by bang for your buck it don't work regardless in regards to Iowa. Iowa has to pay over pay to keep or have a coach like Ferentz. If they would have tried to pay him 2 mill a yr back when they first reworked his deal when Jacksonville was knocking I imagine he woulda left. We'll never get to know that hindsight but if Iowa would have called his bluff he prolly woulda been gone. (where would Iowa be now if that was the case would be a great thread starter) So Iowa is damned if they do "over" pay and damned if they don't. Iowa doesn't want to have a Chizek type of deal here and go through coaches like that. ISU was pretty lucky Rhoads fell in their lap. That Chizek deal could have set them back...Well more then they currently are anyway haha.
If Rhoads has a losing season this year and next, I think Jamie will fire him. Dumb, I know but Jamie thinks ISU can be a big 12 title contender.
