people need to take a step back and gain some perspective

Number 1 all of us... including myself were fooled by the hot shooting at the start of the conference season.

ALL of our players were hitting and that just doesn't last.

This team was never the 9th best team in the conference... but they weren't the #4 team in the nation either.

The only really suprising loss is penn state.

People were really not seeing our down the stretch schedule very well - being fooled by our hot shooting.

Losing at home to Wisconsin? It was close - Wisconsin is one of the hottest teams in the BIG right now. Were at home but losing to them wasn't really that suprising.

Losing at OSU? OSU is not as good this year - but still is a road game at a team with a history of success - losing at OSU wasn't that suprising either.

The issue, partially, is that our conference schedule - we didn't/don't play as many cookies.

It doesn't excuse some of the poor play and coaching down the stretch - but I think people diving of the deep end, wouldn't have dove off the deep end at the beginning of the season.

I'm as frustrated as anyone - but hopefully we will get it back as tournament time approaches.

We may keep sucking but if a couple shots start falling for a few people - the confidence could return and we could make a run again.

What? This team didn't just get hot for a few weeks. The Hawks lost 2 games in the span of over 70 days. From Nov. 278h (the day after they lost to ND) to Feb. 10th the day before they played Indiana they were a top 5 team in the country.

We certainly aren't that now, but lets now pretend that was just some 2-3 week "hot streak" Iowa got on. Not only were they beating teams, they were beating them by double digits. When you try to say that a team isn't the sum of its body of work, you just look silly. On Feb. 10, Iowa was certainly a top 5 team. On Feb. 29th though, Iowa is no longer a top 5 team, and arguable not a top 20 team. The body of work to THIS DATE put them in the #20-#30 team in the nation category.

Iowa is a small, out of the spotlight, humble state. That's the kind of player that comes from Iowa. If Uthoff was an arogant east coast kid, we would still be a top 5 team. He just doesn't have it in him mentally to be a top player. Is that a good take or a terrible one? I really don't know.

Guilty as charged. I drank the kool aid and it was good, man. What I thought was going to be a special season will end up being a good one. 23 or 24 wins will be the 3rd or 4th highest single season total in school history. Like the football season in the moment it is going to suck, but once you get further removed from the season you will appreciate it more.

It's like 2 years ago all over again and a lot of those kids who play now were on that team.

There is serious lack of basketball IQ out there right now. Teams have figured out Iowa and the can't recover.

I agree ... don't just take A step back, take several. That way, you get a really good running start to jump off the cliff. It'll feel like you're flying and you can truly appreciate and participate in the free fall.:p

We got by on experience and good shooting. That got us by a lot of more athletic teams for awhile. Now, these inexperienced teams have gained experience and our shooting has failed us, thus the losses.

11-7 in the conference is still better than most of us thought it would be, just sucks how it all played out (if that's what we end up being).

Fran had us overachieving but now the lack of athleticism we have compared to most teams is hitting us in the face.

Two years ago was agonizing to watch. Teams stopped crashing the offensive glass and there went our transition "edge". This year seems to be a different problem, i.e., we're no shooting poorly, and most of our opponents are shooting lights-out.

Still doesn't explain why our on-ball defense and defending the 3 looks so out-of-sync....

I'm totally mystified, but maybe I shouldn't be. We simply are coming back down to earth a bit.

Two years ago I wanted the team in the NCAA Tournament in preparation for this year. Last year I wanted the team to win an NCAA Tournament game in preparation for this year. Our 5 starters have experienced the NCAA Tournament and have won in the NCAA Tournament. They know what to do if they can just get it going by March 17. This won't be their 1st rodeo.

Oh man , thanks for framing the situation for me, whoooooeeeee, it's great to suck, now I'm gonna watch a replay of the Rosebowel.

Yes! You either need good athletes or good shooters. Our shooting has cooled (back to typical Iowa) and we have no elite athletes.
