I didn't know if he was gonna jump ship, but we ALL knew if he didn't he was gonna milk this moment for all it was worth!
Oddly, one of my first thoughts was wondering what KF was thinking: Cig has been in the BTen 1.5 years and is now pulling down 11.5mil/year. KF has been in the BTen 27 years and is getting what, 7.5m + bonuses?

Indy is taking a gamble that has a high chance of destroying its program for the next 20 years financially if Cignetti is just a flash in the pan. There’s a much higher chance of that being the case than not. But I get it, this is Indiana’s only chance they’re ever gonna get to lock something in if he’s truly that great. It’s entirely possible that he’s gotten lucky to this point and maybe Oregon was having a bad day. Iowa almost beat them too, and the only other “big” win he has is a win over a wet fart Michigan team last year. Lose the Iowa game and the Oregon game, and Indiana is likely 20th in the country and back to just having a decent year.
This is either gonna go real good or real bad for them because if it turns out he’s not the second coming of christ then there’s not gonna be a whole lot of money left coming into the program to go football and NIL. And then you’re into a snowball situation where things get bad for the program quick.
This is either a grandmaster level chess move or a kindergarten level blunder.

From Wisconsin hiring Luke Fickell after Paul Chryst and Bill Belichick following Mack Brown, the history of firing a good coach is sketchy.

Does the Iowa fan base ever get pissed off enough to demand change? Sure they booed Brian but a significant portion of that was indirectly directed toward Kirk.
Seriously, what head coach would suggest keeping the worst offensive coordinator around and waiting for the end of the season to decide to let him go. Odd's are one to a million dollars a year Kirk would have voted to keep his son around. A million dollars is a million dollars.. Just shows an entitlement mind set.
At least Fran won a Big Ten Tournament and worked his way into the March playoff's several times. The football playoff need to expand to 32 games to get more fan bases involved in the process. It's Iowa's only hope under the current regime. 32, 16, 8. 4. 2. 1. What is it now three games to get a champion? What's two more games??? Just imagine 32 fans bases directly involved in the playoffs. Million's and millions of fans following the playoffs with a horse in the race. The powers that be already corrupted the sport by making it semi pro. Pay to play. They can't hurt things any more by bringing in a good chunk of the best teams with the best players money can buy.

A 32 team playoff Would make for a few Cinderella stories once in a while when the small schools upset the MEGA donor schools. That would bring a lot more interest to the sport instead of always watching Alabama, Georgia, LSU, and Ohio State every playoff. Sure, those teams would dominate, but imagine if an underdog pulled the upsets needed to make it to championship game. It would totally change the interest in the game.
