Penn State best team in Big Ten?

Goes into Purdue who beat us by like 50 and handles them easily. I think they have won 7 in a row. Sure wont be a gimme for Iowa at home. So where do we get 3 more wins? Indiana would be a great start and is beatable. Purdue at home?

Indiana and Minnesota are beatable on the road. Purdue and Penn State are beatable at Carver. The only game I don't see us having a shot is on the road against MSU. They'll mug us all game and the refs won't call shit.

Penn State had everything working for them. Every loose ball. Couldn’t miss a shot in first half from 3. Won’t get 10 3’s most game. Let alone first half. Purdue didn’t really turn it over or loose the rebound battle to start. Penn State was just on.

I’m fine with them at home against us. They are a solid team though. Announcers were picking them as a final four possibility after halftime. They did the same thing with Iowa before Purdue. That is college basketball and especially the case this year. Wide open. Just get in the show and have a few good games. Lots of teams can make sweet 16 or better this year.

Maybe, but the way their playing this year it might be a game we can win. Izzo looks very unhappy this year.

I’m very nervous about the remaining home games. Ohio State is desperate, Penn State is the best road team in the conference, and Purdue is one of the hardest teams in the league to figure out (one night they are great the next they are terrible).

Seems like everyone is banking on 3-0 at home and I’m not so sure about that. Our home games with Rutgers, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Illinois came right down to the end.

That’s why we need to get one on the road this week and I’m not all that confident that we do.

I agree. If we lose tomorrow, it's time to go back to just hoping we make the tournament.

If we lose on the road Thursday we go from being in the mix for the 4 seed by the NCAA 4 days ago to hoping we make the tournament? I am not saying you are wrong, that could very well be the case, but seems extreme.

When I say "hoping" I don't mean it's a long shot. I just mean everything else becomes such a long shot that me personally will be more worried about missing the tournament than hopeful for a double bye. Obviously a surprise win at Minnesota would instantly change my goals right back. But for that time being, I'll be sweating getting to 10 wins. @ indiana might very well be our easiest game left on the schedule. I'd say 3rd easiest at worst behind Ohio State and Purdue at home.

You expect to lose every road game right? Do you really expect Iowa to be a 4/5 seed with 12 losses (assumes 1 BTT loss)?

The point being where Iowa happens to sit today really has no barring on where we end up. Those seeding scenarios don’t take any stock in future schedules.

Now I wouldn’t go as so far as to be panicked about NCAA with a loss Thursday, but anxiety would start to set in.

Me personally I think the “double bye” is such an overblown thing to worry about. It doesn’t effect seeding in the NCAA tournament (I.e the committee doesn’t say they were the 4 they should be higher than the 5... they look at your resume’ overall).

Iowa chances of winning the BTT with a double bye are probably what 15% and they are maybe 7% without it? To me that’s far too small a difference for the amount of discussion it’s gotten. Tournaments are typically about matchups anyway.

I'm convinced the selection committee already has the bracket 99% completed before the weekend of the BTT. Teams who win on saturday and sunday never seem to move up at all in seeding and the bracket gets released like 30 minutes after the BTT ends.

Guess what I'm trying to say is saturday/sunday doesn't matter at all for seeding unless an AQ goes to a team that wouldnt have made it.

PSU's remaining schedule: NW, Ill, @IN, RU, @IA, MSU, @NW. PSU trail only Maryland in the standings by 1 game. I could see them winning or tying for the conference championship with their remaining schedule.

Yes, I expect them to lose every road game. Doesn't mean they won't win, it's just what I expect. No, I don't expect them to be a 4/5 seed with 11 losses (what they'd have if they lose all 4) - but I don't expect them to be out of the tourney either. Which is what I was responding to. Obviously, if they lose all 4, they are going to be hurt seeding wise. I just think it's a stretch to go from being considered by the very committee that will decide it's fate a 4 seed at 17-7 to completely out of the tournament at 20-11, or even 19-12 to be truthful. In other words, me personally, I am not worried about making the tournament.

I agree and I’m not going to be in full panic about that just yet. To be quite honest I think Iowa would get in at 9-11 but I don’t want to chance that. The part that gets a little scary is if Iowa drops one or two at Carver.

Anyway my point remains that whatever seed they are saying we are today is rather meaningless in the grand scheme of things as it doesn’t take into account our schedule.
