Penn State abused Morris!

He spent half the game on his back. Penn State's touchdown drive they ran every play at Morris.

Wait until next week when Northwestern just makes him look like a fool in space.

Not posting to bag but just stating the cold hard facts (WHICH, I've been saying since Iowa State for anyone paying attention) specifically, until this defense can set an edge and the linebackers can contain the middle of the field (not to mention tackle) ...

... well ... this defense, overall, is as bad since the turn of the century and (nothing personal) but the LB's are the least talented / skilled since Klink and crew.

"Half the LB as Angerer" is a very unfair statement considering Pat had the benefit of an extra yr of S&C due to red-shirting. In fact Angerer really didn't start making his mark until his fourth yr in the system while I dare say James was one of the bright spots to last yr while playing as a true freshman.

Neilson and Morris were both brutal. Neilson was getting driven off the ball consistently by one blocker. Morris was taken out, just missed the runner, or missed the tackle over and over. The both looked really weak.

Which is one thing I can say about this whole Iowa team. Really starting to wonder if Rhabdo didn't have a lasting impact.

I dont understand all the love our LBs have gotten. Morris isnt strong enough to fill the gap and cant get off the block. Morris, Kirsey and Nielson are too slow and make the tackle about 25% of the time when they are in position. When the play is outside they cant extend the line and they cant stuff the run up the middle. No doubt the offense looked bad today, but PSU is a very poor offensive team. Once they wised up and kept Bolden on the bench they took it to our D.

4 of 5 maybe at home but we are definitely in the bottom tier with IN, MN and Purdue. Six wins is going be a stretch if we dont beat Fitzgerald next week.

Some of u need some perspective here. Iowa's lb's this yr are dealing with things angerer and others never dealt with; OL's being free to block them due to a DL who can't rush or stop run with four

Morris is a sophmore, he's playing before he's ready to do so. That's on the coaching staff for not having an upper classman who is ready to go. How often has a big ten team started a true sophmore at mlb in his fresh or soph year?

I'd bet that by his senior year he'll be all big ten caliber.
IMO the real problem is the interior of the D-Line. the ends aren't special either.

I was sitting about 15 rows directly behind the Hawks bench. Darrell Wilson was chewing out the LBs on at least three occasions. They got an earful for about 5 to 6 minutes each time. They dropped their heads, looked like beaten little puppies.

Iowa's DL and LBs appear to have issues with strength and endurance. Their arms and shoulders are not strong enough to handle OL blocks and bring down 210 to 220 lb running backs who get a head of steam. They tumble over, clutching and flailing, or their chins get stuck into the ground as they get pinned down by big linemen.

I think the defensive unit for Penn State has about double the athletic ability that Iowa's defenders have.

Nielsen had some of the most unwarranted hype on the boards and by the coaches I have ever seen. I agree with Jon about the line not being able to free up our LBs, which is key in our system. I think this can answer for Morris, but I have not seen anything out of Nielsen other than his 4* out of HS.

It's going to be even worse next year guys. Look at who is returning on the DL and Kirk is not even looking at Juco DL's. Kirk's program is in a downward spiral, imo, with no end in sight. The Hawks may even return to Kirk's 1999-2000 levels again, if this keeps up.

Nielsen is not 100%...and he got a bell ringer in the first half, too. But at less than 100% he is the best option Iowa has this year
