Penn St looking very winnable

Franklin will get his crew hyped. I'm pretty sure they're sick of being 0-4. BF better have his head out of his Ferentz and come ready to play and have Petras in a good position so he can have a chance to maybe pull out a W. I think we pound the rock and have everyone ready to hit someone hard

No easy win that I can see. Three of PSU's losses have been to BIG teams (OSU, IN, MD) currently carrying a cumulative 9-1 record. PSU has a stout run defense that is allowing 3.6 avg. per carry........MN by comparison is last in the league at 7.2 per carry. If PSU can stop our run game then we have to rely on Petras which is not ideal. Maybe not the PSU that we normally see but they're more than capable.
Maryland

A proud program is 0-4. They will be very motivated. I'm telling you though...they didn't look like Penn State defensively to me in any of their games. NW made Maryland look completely pedestrian. Maryland torched Penn State. Sure, you could argue Maryland has found their offense...against Minnesota (we all know how good Minny's defense is) & Penn State. I mean Nebraska had 160 rushing against Penn State, Maryland had a 100 yard rusher...Ohio State had a 100 yard rusher. You have to be able to be balanced though...that is the question. All three of those teams kept them thinking and out of position with formations.

This is why they play the games. Iowa's defense has shown over the past 6 quarters they can handle huge OLs. Sure Ibrahim had 140 yards, but he had like 35 carries or something like that. Penn State's backs are nowhere near Ibrahim. Ibrahim is a stud and easily the best back I've seen in the B10 this year. We had him dead to rights and he would wiggle to get 4 yards. He had some carriers where there was completely nothing there and he'd get 3 yards. He's special and will play on Sundays.

Micah Parsons opted out this year and I believe it has really affected their defense in a negative way. He is only one guy but he was very good at the linebacker position. He will opt for the draft in the spring and we won't have to face him again. And probably go in the first round.

As WinOne stated, they will be very motivated. We are going to have to figure out a way to move the ball with 8-9 man fronts. I hope Petras can keep some of the momentum he seemed to get late in the Minnesota game and make them pay.

Would you call them a "soft" defense? Not sure. I totally agree with Haydenly above, Penn. St. sorely misses Parsons; he was a force. Even if a defense is "soft", Franklin IMO, is a good enough coach to find ways to "help". If he can accomplish that, it is then up to BF to find a way with play calling to take advantage of the situation. I posted early, this game is on him and the play calling.

They aren't playing great defense that's for sure. Right now, they are giving up 35 points a game...so KF can talk about how impressed he is with their film, but they ain't getting it done. Hopefully, we come in with a good game plan and exploit some of their issues defensively.

I think they are on the caliber of Purdue this year. Have a few studs (At WR and DE), but not a complete team and mediocre at best at QB. If Iowa plays a complete game, they should win by 10+, but I think PSU will be competitive as Petras is likely to make a mistake or two. The betting line looks correct.

Iowa, -2.5?

Not buying that they are going to be motivated. They should have been motivated at 0-3 to beat Nebraska. Their reeling continues.

Corndogs had an INT return deep in the first quarter and a fumble scoop and score in the 2nd. Penn. St. was a victim of early turnovers. I believe the N. Loins also missed a chip-shot FG early. They blinked and were behind 24-3.

Trap game here and I am sure Ferentz and son know it. They should be quite hungry for a Penn State win as they've been starving of late. Best be best on this one as some would suggest, Penn State is also hungry for a win. Hoping the run game and stellar line blocking continues/improves, but also hope Petras development takes a step forward. If we gonna be relevant late, beat Wisky, we will need a balanced capable offense. One sided won't work against a really good D.

I'm not sure it's a trap game in the truest sense anyway. I can't imagine we are riding too high. I mean we should be feeling more confident then we had been but still. Petras hasn't exactly been lighting it up. We have plenty of room to improve all over (maybe not so much on special teams they have been lights out) We'll have to earn it to beat PSU. They have to be frustrated and itching for a win. It's not like they aren't talented. Their 3rd stringers were a ton of 4 stars I bet too. It's a winnable game for us and it'd be dissapointing if we don't but I'm not super confident in our chances. Our QB situation is just too flimsy for me to be overly confident.

The goal now is to go to a bowl game. We can take a big step toward that goal with a win over Penn State. That would be huge.

Penn State has completely turned the tables on a series we once dominated.

Have we even beaten them once since the Stanzi era? Don't think we have. We won't be taking them lightly. No way.
I have a Northside - like story for this one. The last year we beat Penn State was 2010. My son was born 5 weeks early, he was in the NICU and my wife was in the ICU. 4 days later was Penn State. The wife and kid were doing much better so I decided to go meet some friends and her family to tailgate. I mingled for about 3 beers worth and went back up to the room, which had a great view of Kinnick (couldnt see the field of course) to watch the game. Iowa won 24-3, it was the very first "stripe-out" at Kinnick. Shaun Praetor had a pick six very late in the game that sealed it. Game is seared in my memory.

Wow, look at the saint on here. Most dudes on here would have been like "babe, we're ranked in the top 20, I know we shit the bed against Arizona, but this team is BACK, I'll be back an hour after the game, no sense in me sticking around here, there's nothing I can do for the baby or you anyway!" That 2010 season was shaping up to be a doozy until the fake fucking punt. God damn it.

Haha to be fair I had about 3 hours of sleep in that four day period and was completely drained. Having a tiny buzz and being cozy in the hospital room (more like a suite) was pretty damn comfortable actually.

Don't forget about the no-call PI on Adam Robinson that ended our chances of beating OSU that year too! On my fucking birthday mind you. Was at that game and the Wisconsin game that year.. ugh

Wait what the hell is this shit, no youtube?? :(

If its any consolation for you the World Trade Center towers were attacked and destroyed on my birthday. My wife picked me up for lunch, since I wasn't getting much accomplished at work, and everyone at the Mexican restaurant we were eating at was just staring at the TV's with zombie like looks on their faces.

We were at my wife's HS reunion the night of the 2010 Penn State game. I remember DJK making a nice leaping catch under the goalposts, close to where they beat us on the last play seven years later.

I was supposed to get married on 9/12. We were just doing a little thing at the local government office and then doing a bigger wedding in a month. My parents have still never met my in-laws. Couldn't get married on 9/12 because the embassy was closed with 100 troops and an anti aircraft battery parked out front and I couldn't get the requisite affidavit, so we got married on 9/13. That day at the embassy was crazy. I was the only person there who wasn't in the service.
