Patrick McCaffery Discusses Freshman Season, Recruitment

Patrick reminds me of Uthoff. He's tall, lengthy but has guard like handles. Can shoot from outside as well as take it off the bounce. He has a small frame like Uthoff, so I think he'll always be slender but that hasn't hurt Uthoff.

This is kid is special.

Patrick will be Frans best "recruit." He is going to be incredibly hard to defend. I think he's quicker than Uthoff, will be a bigger threat off bounce, just as good of a shooter and of course he's a coaches kid.

Thing that excites me most about the McCaffery kids is they've been around their dad's programs all their lives. They know what he demands, what offense he runs, what to practice and work on, what drills to run and they've seen how much time people like uthoff put in the gym to be good.

IOWA CITY, Iowa – With his older brother Connor sidelined with a concussion Friday night, Patrick McCaffery knew he needed to pick up his game. The Iowa City West freshman did just that.
McCaffery scored 14 points in the second-ranked Trojans’ 77-71 victory against No. 6 Linn-Mar here at West High. His thunderous break-away dunk in the second crowd caused the crowd to explode and helped his team carry the momentum to victory.
“I definitely had to increase the scoring because obviously when (Connor) is out that goes down,” Patrick said. “Everybody knew they had to step up their game tonight and that’s what we did and that’s why we came out with the win.”
Patrick said the toughest adjustment to high school basketball has been the physicality and the speed of opposing defense. That said, he feels himself improving, especially on the defense.
His father, Iowa Coach Fran McCaffery, offered a scholarship to Patrick when he was in junior high. The the 6-foot-7 freshman hasn’t officially committed but it appears to be a formality.
“I mean, it’s not like I’m going to go anywhere else,” he said.

I would think a side benefit of a coach's kid being on the team is the "funding" that can be given to other players. Meaning, if Fran gives his kid a few hundred bucks and says go take the guys out for dinner/drinks, that is a benefit that other coaches cannot offer. Or am I wrong?
