If a 2 loss Georgia team that did not win its conf champ game gets in and OSU and or OU do not get in with only one loss and a championship then blow up the CFP and call it rotten tripe. Georgia and Michigan are in the same boat as far as I am concerned

Really there have been enough years now in the CFP where at least 2 qualified teams got left out and there should be at least 2 more teams added. I could see Bama, Clemson, ND, OU, OSU, and UCF this year. Bama and Clemson would sit out the first round.

The first round could be played right after all schools have finals over with (they are students if you remember) around Dec 23 or 24th, a Xmas holiday game slate. Then you are down to 4 teams ready to play around new years day and then the Champ game.

Until they get a real playoff, debates like this are gonna happen. Here is how you fix it.

1) Just go back to the old bowl system and don't even have a "pretend playoff"
2) Get a real 8 or 16 team playoff where all conference champs make it in. Every other major sport has a real playoff where a good % of its teams make the playoffs, and all you have to do is when your division to make it.

If Georgia was playing Oklahoma right now...they would be a 10 point favorite at least. They would score 50 against OU. If Georgia was playing OSU...they would be favored by at least 10 also.

Georgia is easily one of the best four teams right now. That being said, they had their chance yesterday and blew it. It's fair to leave them out. They also got handily beaten at LSU.

OU doesn't deserve it. Defense wins championships. That defense is no where near championship level and in a bad conference in my opinion. I know you can also make the same argument against OSU. At least OSU is playing better the past two weeks.

I agree on the differences between between OU and Osu's defense vs Georgia's defense. I cannot understand the Jeckyl and Hyde nature of OSU's defense giving up about 50 to Maryland which Iowa throttled. Maybe just fat cat players. And Georgia will get some kudos for leading bama almost the whole game. I get that but....

Georgia now has two losses and it not a P5 championship team. They had a 14 point lead and couldnt protect it, went sort of conservative and couldnt move the ball, they lost.

OSU has one loss, they beat a 12th ranked , 6th ranked maybe at the time, PSU team on the road, torched Michigan which is ranked about 10th, won their conference. Georgia might be favored but it seems the Bucks defenses rises up when they need to.

(Personally I would be a little pissed as an OSU defensive coach as to how they can turn on the defense then look bad for stretches). OSU should have been having 3rd teamers get lots of time this year even in some conference games. OU is a terrible defensive team and the B12 is trash

Georgia is one of the top 4 teams in college football....but I can see why they are being left out. You should have to win your conference championship and I didn't agree with Alabama getting in after they lost their conference championship game.

Agree! Georgia is one of the Top 4. IMO last night we watched the Championship Game because in my view Alabama and Georgia are the 2 best teams and neither Clemson, ND or Oklahoma would beat either Bama or Georgia.

Yes the old adage when it came to picking the rankings and BCS etc was an early loss in the year can be overlooked vs a late loss in the year.

Ohio St has a somewhat late in the season loss to Purdue who then went and got humiliated at Minny like 40-3. OSU has really good wins at TCU (who turned out to be avg), Penn st, Michigan, say what you will but a 21 pt win vs NW.

Okla has what I would say is a not too good of loss against Texas which I really think is about a 15-18th ranked team. But that only loss is 6-8 weeks ago but still OU if they were top 4 would have beat W VA by 21+ as W VA is barely top 25.

If I had to rank the top teams now I would put Georgia #3 behind Bama then Clemson. I have to admit I only look at scores and barely peek in on these other teams throughout the year. I mainly watch Big 10, ISU some and bits of top ranked games. But Georgia has a defense. Georgia did get handled by LSU.

Notre Dame is 4th because of no losses , they didnt stumble, but they also just barely got by some average teams. so I could see OSU jumping them and that is fine with me.

OSU 5th and OU 6th. Central Florida doesnt play the strength or schedule and is now the new Boise St.

If Georgia was a top 4 team, they wouldn’t have lost their 2 most important games of the year. There isn’t participation points for almost beating bama. Michigan has 2 losses (both against top 6 teams) and they aren’t even in consideration.

If your wins/losses don’t matter, then why do we play?

Need 8 teams. GA. Is better than OK and OSU and I dont believe it's really that close. That said, I understand why they arent in with 2 loses.

Need 8 teams. Its 1 extra game, can do bowl tie-ins, and it gets rid of 99 % of the discussion. AL, CLem, ND, OK, UCF, OSU, GA....+1....

It’s not about wins and losses kirk. It’s about being one of the four best and that is what Georgia is. Ohio getting their nuts clipped at purdue ruled them out.

If you lose 2 games, you are not one of them the four best.

If it isn't about wins and losses why even play the games?

The CFP Committee has said they want the four best teams in the playoff.

Eye test, to me, says Georgia is one of the four best — #3.

The problem is they’d have to put them #4 and that wouldn’t be “fair” to Bama to have to play them back-to-back.

For my #4 it would be a grab bag of ND, OK, and OSU; I don’t see much difference and I’m not sold on ND buuuut I’m not objective about ND

Needs to be an 8-team (or 16-team) playoff.

Win your P5 conference — however, your conference wants to determine its champ and it’s number of conference games.

Other 3 are selected based on pre-determined data that everyone knows about. So the same corrupt system can get the sexy ones in

A. All open spots — specifically Independents or non-P5 have to finish in top8 of this data structure to be considered.

B. Only division winners in P5 leagues can be selected for the open 3 spots — so that means 2 max per conference.

C. Conference champs are top 5 seeds.
#1~#3 get home field and #4~#5 would play on neutral field or go ahead and give it to #4

This year just proved the need for a 6 or 8 team playoff. Doesn't make sense that you have 5 power conferences and a bunch of independents and sub power 5s and only 4 teams get in.

These debates are as long as the day.

USC in 1972 went 24-2 (basketball) and had one of the most exciting players in the country (future NBA star Paul Westphal) and had no shot at the NCAA'S because you can guess who their two losses were against.

USC was probably one of the the top five teams in the country that year. It is widely believed to be the beginning of the now classic quote about how UCLA should have hung booster Sam Gilbert's check book in the Pauley Pavilian rafters with all those championship banners.

If you lose 2 games, you are not one of them the four best.
That’s too simplistic thinking. You understand they don’t play a schedule like iowa...right? They list to possibly the greatest college football program this decade after leading most of the game. They olay offense and defense exceptionally well and wouldn’t get blown out at purdue or iowa by 30. They are better than ohio or Oklahoma
