Parker still keeps eye on Hawkeyes

From article:

“We’re young, but we knew that would be the case. They don’t have (an Adrian) Clayborn, a (Karl) Klug, a (Mitch) King or a (Matt) Kroul, guys we were fortunate to have over the past few years,’’ Parker said.

“They don’t have that kind of talent, but Reese Morgan is getting everything he can out of that line. Those guys are playing their butts off, playing much better than anybody had hoped. They’ll keep getting better, too. That’s the way Kirk’s teams work.’’

He's a lot closer to the program than most would believe. He comes on the Garmon and Cotler show at noon here in DM once a week to discuss Iowa football.

“I sit up in those suites around people who think they know all the answers. I go to practice and hell, there are times when I don’t even know what’s going on, but others, they have all the answers,’’ Parker said.

Hes over there all the time. Hell one day a few weeks ago he was sleeping in his golf cart right at the entrance of the football complex. My brother thought he was dead and tapped him on the shoulder, he was ok

And it is by far their best segment of the week. He is awesome on it, and yeah, he knows just about everything that is going on and he still breaks down tape it sounds like.

I've talked to Norm a few times up in the box during halftime of games. He clearly misses coaching and when I talked some X&Os with him, his eyes lit up. He still knows exactly what's going on out on the field & has a great eye for detail. Hate that it was health issues that prevented him from continuing to coaching.

This defense is more or less Norms legacy. That’s something retired coaches don’t usually get to see. More often than not, a new bunch of coaches come in, than it’s out with everything old and in with everything new. Norm’s defense was this team’s strength. Nice to see things bounce back into shape much faster than anyone expected.
