Parallels to NW Last Year

Iowa is #27 in the country in 3rd down conversions. That’s not our issue.

Our problem is we can’t create big plays and we aren’t good enough to sustain long drives and convert them into TDs.

From Iowa State on, sustaining drives has been a big, big problem. Thank goodness, Duncan has been solid or the problem would be worse.

The thing is I think Stanley could if they would actually call designed runs for him instead of running wildly avoiding blitzing LBs

I remember early in the KF era he had Kyle McCann run a lot of QB draws. Part of the reason was the line play was so bad, but it was an effective play. He wasn’t graceful when he did it, especially compared to Brad Banks, point being is that it worked.

We'd be sitting at 3-4 without Duncan.

And who knows what kind of life we may have given Rutgers if we miss a couple early field goals. Remember Minnesota 2010?

Give a deflated underdog a spark and they can suddenly start playing out of their mind. Like Minnesota did that day.

Or how about Nebraska in basketball last year?

That’s a little unfair. Aaron Rodgers is a master at the hard cadence. It is one of the many things that makes him great.
As I stated above, no one is comparing him to Rodgers nor implying he should be that good at it. In fact, I'm not even talking about Stanley per se

I'm simply pointing out that the coaching staff seems incapable of seeing what I'm sure every opposing defensive coordinator sees: Our cadence and snap count predictability makes it easy to attack the LOS and disrupt the zone blocking. A few hard-counts and changes to the tempo is an easy way to get the defense to second guess. You don't have to be in Aaron Rodgers' class to do it successfully.

NW's offense is worse this year. NW not having Thorson should help us. I'm going to hold on to the 5% chance that BF pulls his head out of his ass and improves the playcalling...

I swear to God if we let jNW steal this one, with that team, then have to look down a double barrel shotgun at Camp Randall....?

We lose to those purple dinosaurs and we give Wiscy's loss to Illinois right back
