Pac16 wants to automatic bids

That should read 2 in the subject line not to. Ridiculous if allowed, if they become a 16 team league.

The coach said it's possible the Pac-16 would push for two automatic bids to the BCS, one for each division champion. That potential bonanza could open the possibility of the two division champs from one league playing for the national title, and it would eliminate the need for a conference championship game.

The Big Ten should ask for two seats too. After all we'll have several of the top programs in the nation.

Doesn't really matter we get 2 anyways, we should ask for the rule to be changed that a conference can have 3.

Really it is not that crazy. There are 5 BCS games right now so 10 teams. If there ends up to be 4-16 team conferences everybody would get 2 and then two at large. Or you could go back to 4 BCS games and have the 4 winners play each other, the 4 losers play each other in consolation, and then the 2 winners of the winners BCS games play a week later for the National Title. Bam.........Playoff...That just happened.

That's my thinking. If the end result of all this is four 16-team conferences, each conference would almost have to have two autobids.

Of course, that assumes the BCS and/or NCAA makes it through intact.

That won't work. The non-AQ conferences have to have an equal opportunity to play for it all. Giving the 4 superconferences all the slots doesn't do that.

I don't think we'll have 4 16 team conferences anyway. Plus teams like Kansas, KSU, ISU, Boise St, Utah, TCU, etc could easily form a bigger MWC and be the 5th major conference. Also from all the things I'm reading the Big Ten may stop at 12 or 14 anyway.

No way, screw them. ;)

But the 2 bids per conference is still not a big deal at all. Would leave 2 non AQ.

I was only referring to your suggestion that they go back to the 4-game format. Under the current format, 2 from each conference would work just fine.

If it turns out to be 4-16 team conferences, I don't think the BCS will survive. I think the big conferences will do their own thing with their own bowls (all of the current major bowls) and let the little guys do whatever.
