Pac-10 considering expansion=Iowa is a frontrunner for 11th team

Boise State, Fresno State, BYU, Utah, TCU, UNLV.... Some interesting possibilities.

I don't know anything about Boisie States other programs but from a football standpoint it makes sense. Fresno State makes a ton of sense geographically and they have decent football and basketball programs. BYU is a standout in thier current conference in almost all sports. UNLV could make sense on an atheletic level but I'm guessing the the fact you cant place bets on any UNLV games would create some backlash with some....

This is far more interesting than Big10 expansion I think.

I think a Colorado and a BYU or a Nevada would be good fits.

BSU, I guess, could work.

Especially works well if Utah and or TCU end up in the Big 12 after Colorado and Missouri bolt for different conferences.

I think just from a competitive point of view, BYU and Utah would be the best pair of teams to add. But when considering TV markets, I'm sure they would love to get Colorado and the Denver market.

I don't think the rest of Boise St.'s teams or facilities are anywhere near a major conference level. And if the football team were to fall off soon, they could have real trouble rebuilding in a much stronger conference. Utah and BYU have a decades long track record of relative success in both basketball and football.

Cowherd had a great burn on Pac-10 expansion today. He really lit them up for being behind the time and not making any money, then said that Arizona St. was a trucking school and Wazzu is where you go to learn how to run a bait shop (I have a friend who went to wazzu, so that was really funny to me).

He said that Utah was the obvious first choice. They have a major media market, a good transportation hub, good fan support, a solid academic school, and solid FB and BB programs.

What he had to say about the others was interesting too. He said that they wouldn't want Fresno because while it is in Cali, the town is a crap hole, and no one wants to go there (this is absolutely true by the way).

He said Colorado is too much of a hippy schoolm and they don't want another hippy school (I disagree, because Boulder has a wierd, laid-back Cali vibe that most flyover schools don't)

He said Boise has a football team to ffer and that's it. No major influx of fans, media, or viewers. Plus, no one wants to go to Boise either.

BYU could have issues with their religious beliefs, mainly they won't play on Sundays.

You understated this a bit. If California were to get an enema, Fresno is where they would stick the hose.

I lived there for awhile and had to go back on business last year. It's only redeeming quality is.... Well, it has no redeeming qualities. That place is a S*** Hole.

Colorado would be appealing both for the media market and it expands thier geographic territory into the mountain states but I'm not sure what would be in it for Colorado?

They have also been a bottom tier school atheltically at least in the two majors (mens bball and football).

The no games on Sunday's issue doesn't seem like a big factor on the surface as the only regularly televised sport that plays on Sundays now is bball and that could easily be worked around..... but I wonder how many non TV sports, swimming, gymanstics, etc etc have meets and tournaments on Sundays especially the conference chapmionship stuff....

It also throws a wrench into bowl scenarios... could you imagine BYU turning down a new years day or BCS bowl just because it was on Sunday? If they turned down an oportunity to play in a BCS bowl because it fell on a Sunday the Pac10 could loose millions in bowl revenue.

Boise St? Too small.

Big Ten takes Missouri.
Pac 10 takes Colorado.
Iowa State says "enough" and joins the Mountain West.

= dismantling of the Big XII

If the Pac 10 where able to steal Colorado from the Big 12 I think would be the perfect time to offer Texas. if they say no, go for 14 by going after Nebraska, and Mizzu, & someone out east (Pitt, Rutgers).

Unless they went for Texas, the only other schools/teams I can see adding anthing to the P10 athletically would be Colorado, or maybe Utah or BYU. It'd be fun to see them add New Mexico and see how Alford fairs in a BCS conference again...

Pac 10 has a terrible TV contract and very limited exposure compared to other BCS conferences. Texas would gain nothing by joining the Pac 10. It's all about the money for all these conference realignments scenarios, and playing mostly Thursday and Sunday night games on Fox Sports doesn't bring in the cash like an ESPN deal.

Colorado to the MWC, TCU and Arkansas to the Big XII, ISU to the MVC

Pac10 will take BYU and Utah, not Colorado.

It's the pattern of the Pac10: get two schools that are natural rivals within driving distance of each other.

USC/UCLA
Cal/Stanford
Oregon/Oregon St
Washington/Washington St
Arizona/Arizona St

Utah/BYU

BYU doesn't have the academic requirements to meet Pac-10 standards. They don't focus enough on research so the Pac 10 would need to waive this requirement to allow them in, also Utah and BYU share the exact same market. Colorado would open up the Denver market to the Pac 10, once again it all comes down to money.

Of course BYU doesn't meet academic standards. Have you ever watched "Discussions on the Doctrine and Covenants" on BYU-TV? Phew! Actually, just about anything on BYU-TV is excellent material for mockery or a good nap. Can't wait for the next General Conference report so I can catch some Zzz's.

And I would really love to see the Big XII fall apart. Let them take Colorado--they would fit well.

I'm just saying there is a geographical pattern, and that BYU/Utah would fit the pattern.
