Owen Freeman OUT for remainder of the season!!!!

Well, at least the woman’s team was brilliant yesterday. We got that anyway. I am not ready to rule out the NIT for the men just yet, although rooting for an NIT bid is a bit depressing on the best of days.
Based on the women's current team with the freshmen, the incoming recruits, and the potential to be a legit player long term, one could argue Iowa's NIL money should all go to WBB. They are the only ones (except maybe rasslin) that have a chance at a National Championship.

What is with this jumpy ass website? I try to post, and I lose the string and have to re-enter the thread…….

And after all that I forgot what I was going to post!

I try refreshing the page on my laptop on the top left of the page

Or I just shut evertthing down and start over

Not a big social media person, so take it FWIW. Lot of rumors floating out there about Freeman and the men’s basketball program in general. Hard to get a grasp on what to think.

Some random thoughts. TRJ: what rumors? Don’t post crap like that. Thank you.

AJ 87: Finger Injury: Surgical repair. Unless you are a surgeon, how about not claiming that this should not keep Owen from playing this season. And, Owen decides what will be released on his injury. None of our business.

Idea that Owen might leave: Nope. Only 2 years of eligibility with a starting position guaranteed at Iowa. Transfer risky. Has some limitations. Is he physically a 5 in someone else’s’ system? Not ready to play 3 or 4 by a long shot. So no flexibility.

And, Owen and Brock are close.

Next, Iowa’s incoming class is getting some serious positive attention. Josh will finish his senior year at Iowa. Pryce is going nowhere. Duh. Coop will return if health allows. Tadjo: He will return. So will Traori. Neither one is remotely in Fran’s doghouse. (Tadjo was injured, so don’t make shit up.) Those two guys look to me like a change in Fran’s book, as do the newcomers. Defense/rebounding/physical.

And, Fran will not leave, just yet. I think he has begun the rebuild for 2025-26 and beyond.

Last shot: What if Fran leaves and the plan already in place is to hand the head job to Eldridge, keep Dillard and Gatens, and consider the other “coaches” on staff who are not officially coaches? Some interesting guys. That would be fun, and maybe really smart. After all, many HN posters are wary of going out on the market…for good reason.

Didn’t post anything specific just stated that there are a lot of rumors…WHICH THERE ARE.

Are these kids banking on back up careers as concert pianists? When I broke an index finger as a sophomore, my coach taped it to my middle finger and I played the 2nd half.

He didn't post a rumor. He posted that there're rumors out there. I'm confused about what you're bent about with what he did. Even if he had posted what rumors he's referring to what'd be the harm in that? This is a message board it's where rumors come to be made up out of the blue sky and be talked about. We speculate about coaches and players and what others are saying and thinking about them all the time. If not for that what are we even doing on here frankly?

Fran says "relatively recently"? That's all you can say about when the finger injury happened? against who? how?
It coulda happened in practice they'd been off for about a week. When/how it happened doesn't really matter to me. He didn't do it playing video games. Just is what it is. It's bad enough that he needed season ending surgery on. Glad he's able to get it done.

Iowa men's still produce revenue, (now that's mostly because of TV contracts) but even in it's current state and with what happened previous years recently, the wiser investment for Iowa is still putting it into it's 2nd leading revenue sport and the one with the most optics and eyeballs on it and that's not Wrestling or Women's basketball.

This...

You spend money on the sports that make you money, period.

If WBB was a money maker it'd be getting money put towards it in return. TV contracts alone eclipse anything WBB makes by a huge factor. The percentage of people who watch WBB compared to men's has to be approaching single digit percent.

I think that tide has been shifting some though... It already did for the tournament last yr. Being post CC it'll be interesting to see how this yr does. I think the tv contracts are always going to be slow to adjust to any kind of rapid shift but WBB I would think isn't that much different then the men is it? I'm saying this without seeing any recent numbers mind you. If you put the big WBB games on prime time slots/channels they'll do well. I bet Iowas last game on Fox outdid damn near any other game that was on tv that day mens or womens. (Granted the CC aspect skews everything)

Yeah, I know that's actually true, but I would love to see the Iowa women get a natty in a few years. Men's bball will be fortunate to get to the tournament in current state (I really hope I'm wrong).

You're right, but if Iowa women's make it to the final four routinely, there a lot of eyeballs on that too. Outside of Iowa everyone knows about Iowa WBB but men's these days??

I love Iowa men's sports, but I'll watch the WBB team over the men any day of the week. I never thought I'd say that until a couple of years ago.

I wonder how long MBB can sustain having this level of fan apathy, no real NCAA tournament success, and nearly empty arenas.

I saw Iowa play live at UCLA and the game was over in the first five minutes. Yawn.

Thank you for the positive vibes, man. I watched Iowa play in person recently and watched them get blown out of the arena. I'm a steadfast supporter of both Iowa FB and MBB, but it's tough to be a MBB fan these days.
