Overall kudos to defense; offense showed what should be, beat nebby

The defense did a lot of things they needed to pull the upset. Overall one of best tackling games of the year.

Except for Mcevoy 45 yard run, the 85 and 25 yarders by Gordon the defense played hard, tackled well. stayed in their lanes. They did a lot of things I and others mentioned they had to do like maybe play a 5-2 with a linebacker on the LOS, and the end defensive players were getting upfield a yard or so to take away the edges for the most part.

Again the offense looked sluggish and off in the first half and great in the second half. This failure to put together complete games on offense is killing this team. But again at least they made a game of it.

Now the hawks can and should beat nebby I believe. nebby can be run on and we can stop their offense if the defense plays like it did today.

Agree with your post....We just dould not come up with the fumbles by Gordon.The offense looked sluggish because of the pedestrian play calling.. No shots down field to take advantage of their single coverage. Rudock had his best half as a Hawk. I would love to see him play a complete game against a good team. We need a great back..We are due one. Will Markel Smith still make here? Hope we close the deal on our other 4star RB.

Great job by the "D"....you cannot corral an All-American like Gordon all the time.....our kids have nothing to be upset about....they now know this is how they should play and I expect the same intensity come Friday.....Jake, I have to hand it to you young man, helluva a 2nd half.....get back in the game and take care of Nebbie

Yes, this was a problem, we couldnt get much pressure with 4 man rush but we also couldnt sell out on the pass rush on 3rd and medium with gordon in the backfield which I think made it really tough.

Most teams with 3rd and 7 are going to [pass but maybe not wisky.

When Kinnick is like it was today, it shouldnt be tough for anyone in an Iowa uniform to get up and play hard. Loudest it's been in quite a while.

They gave up over 250 yds rushing. They worked hard but so does my dish washer. Nobody gives points for trying hard or a coach with good character.

I agree. Were way overdue to get a bigtime back. I was thinking today when watching the gm what our team would look like with a game changing back like Gordon.

I'm sorry, but the defense lost this game. They let Wisconsin convert third and long all day. Stave looked like a Heisman Trophy candidate. Game on the line....with chance to get the ball back for the offense to win and possibly play for the Big 10 West title next week....the defense had not one, but TWO chances for a third down stop on that last drive...and choked both times.

Not to mention giving up an 87 yard run.

Nope, I won't be giving the D any compliments.

WTF. You try to get a team into third and long so they'll punt, not convert while you sit back and go into some ungodly iteration of prevent D.

The 3rd and long defense is absolutely inexcusable. And it's not a new problem.

While I feel similarly, i'm not so quick to say they don't deserve any compliments. They played extremely well, except for 2 or 3 big plays, and those late 3rd down ones where "sometimes you do, sometimes you don't". They were on the field an awful lot, especially in the first half....and it seemed many on this board anyhow, seem to think wisky was going to put up 35+ points on us.

We lost by 2 points...a field goal at the end wins it...you can't hang this on the D...play calling and game mgmt maybe....we win next week with a similar effort.
