Outsey has left the building

Must have seen the landscape with Wieskneski, Fant, Hoekensen & Beyer among others. One of the youngsters is going to play a little this year.

Ya we're pretty deep at TE,don't know if he was having trouble picking up offense or maybe his blocking wasn't up to our standards.Doesnt really matter he decided to leave and that gives someone else a chance to get in the rotation.

From UI Sports Info:

OUTSEY TO LEAVE IOWA FOOTBALL PROGRAM

IOWA CITY, Iowa - - Tight end Jameer Outsey, a redshirt sophomore in 2015, has elected to transfer from the University of Iowa and the Hawkeye football program. The announcement was made Friday by head coach Kirk Ferentz.

Outsey is a native of Somerset, New Jersey (Franklin HS). He worked with the Iowa defense during his redshirt season before moving to tight end a year ago. Outsey (6-foot-3, 245 pounds) played in eight games, recording one reception for 10 yards. He also recorded one solo tackle on special teams.

Interesting that almost everybody assumes this decision is only football related. There could be a personal or academic issue involved. I have no idea.

But then again, I Guess it does not really matter. Point is he is gone.

Attrition U.

Meh. I thought Outsey might be the solid #2 as he looked decent last year in limited time and seemed to have some potential. But according to the article he was #3/#4 after the Spring and behind some young guys. When 3rd-4th stringers leave because they want to play somewhere, I get that.

Seemed like a solid teammate and worker. Good luck to him

I don't think we've had much attrition that will hurt much. Not this year anyway.

In general these days, I think college athletes are less inclined to stick it out with a team if things don’t work out. This may be especially true if the student is far away from home. There are ample opportunities to get a scholarship closer to home, in many cases at a lower level, and also find the right academic fit Sometimes there seems to be a combination of things going on, not making the depth chart, wanting to be closer to home, marginal academic performance, and personal issues all influencing the decision.

Hate losing guys with cool names. But, sounds like he just never had a perfect fit at Iowa & was sliding down on the depth chart. KF was probably pretty candid with him about position and chance for playing time and there probably wasn't anywhere else for him to crack a depth chart. Wish him well wherever he ends up. I personally think will see Pekar make a push this year & step up.

Watched the Dowling kid in High School and liked what I saw. Didn't see Hockensen play football but had his basketball games probably 3 times and he was a decent basketball player and a good athlete but he didn't seem as physical as I expected. Granted we're talking about a completely different game but we know TEs have to block to see the field for Kirk.

I thought he would emerge this year as a solid TE. Just another example of Ferentz not listening to my advice.
