Outback Bowl Promotion

While watching the bowl preview last night I noticed something wrong with the promotion. Iowa is team coconut shrimp and LSU is team blooming onion. So the team that wins gets their appetizer free the day after the bowl. Shouldn't it be reversed. Louisiana produces a lot of shrimp, Iowa none, or close to none. Iowa produces some onion. So imo opinion free blooming onion would be fitting for Iowa after they win rather than Louisiana produced coconut shrimp.

I had the same thought, here's my spin.

When Governors make a bet on a big rivalry game, the loser usually gives away something from his state. So maybe the idea is....we get to eat the Gulf Shrimp once we kick LSU's azz.

No disrespect but they grow a lot more onions in Louisiana, the public television Cajun Chef show would pronounce it like ON-EEE-ONEZZZZ. And along with chopped celery and carrots they are used in the basic holy trinity of Mirepoix that several recipes start with.

I thought it was because onion is a cheaper thing to give away than shrimp, and Outback is betting that LSU wins. $ trumps all.

They may grow more onions than Iowa, but they DEFINITELY catch more Shrimp than we do in Iowa.

Unfortunately Outback is limited to their app menu options. Unless they add pork rinds... there's not a lot of Midwest/Iowa in there. ;)

Ummmm, steak?
After all it is a 'Steakhouse'

After reviewing outbacks menu.
Menu - Outback Steakhouse
I have to agree the wings are the most consistent with Iowa. It would be far more fitting than shrimp. One thing is for sure there will be no free blooming onions on Thursday.

Given how badly our defense chokes and how flat our offense is with Davis calling the plays, I think the chicken artiCHOKE FLATbread is most consistent with Iowa.

No wings for the high flying offense. Plus there are a lot of chickens farmers in Iowa that would benefit. Artichokes are mostly grown in California. So that does not fit.

I can just imagine the Louisiana shrimp Producers Association laughing it up at the Louisiana State Fair this year, saying ha ha we win anyways, outback bought a ton of shrimp from us, thanks Iowa.

You would be surprised at some of the fish farms and what they are doing in Iowa. Its not just catfish and carp anymore.

Well true I have heard of a few indoor shrimp farms in the state, but would that be a different shrimp than that used in the coconut shrimp, second is production at a level to supply a major restaurant chain? Finally where is the coconut coming from? I guess not Iowa, maybe there are some grown in greenhouses but I doubt it would be enough to make more than a few orders of coconut shrimp.

What percentage of any chain's more expensive food is sourced in the US? Red Lobster anyone?

The Aussie Cheese Fries are my go-to aussie-tiezer when I want to eat healthy, before loading up on a blooming onion and some other Australian cities for the main course.
