Our First Road Game demands a deeper look....

I'd like to start by saying i am a huge optimist, and my post history illustrates that- but in spite of that i just hate how inept we can be on the road at times. What follows usually makes me want to puke when i revisit this every year!

Our Wins in true road games & the opponents season ending record:

2011: (1-4)
Purdue 7-6

2010: (2-3)
Michigan 7-6
Indiana 5-7

2009: (4-1)
ISU 7-6
PSU 11-2
Wisconsin 10-3

2008: (2-3)
Indiana 3-9
Minnesota 7-6

2007: (1-4)
Northwestern: 6-6

2006: (2-3)
Syracuse 4-8
Illinois 2-10

2005: (1-3)
Purdue 5-6
Wisconsin 10-3

2004: (3-2)
PSU 4-7
Illinois 3-8
Minnesota 7-5

2003: (2-3)
ISU 2-10
Wisconsin 7-6

2002: (5-0)
Miami (OH) 7-5
PSU 9-4
Indiana 3-9
Michigan 10-3
Minnesota 8-5

W/L record for Hawks: 23-26

Last road win against a team that finished a year with a winning record was Purdue in 2011.

Last time we won on the road vs a team that had 8+ wins to Finish a year was PSU & Wisconsin in 2009. Prior to that was Nov 12, 2005 vs Wisconsin.

Outside of 2009, we have only had 6 wins versus teams that finish with winning records while playing on the road (bowl wins included for record), 1 of which that finished with a win total greater than 8; ('05 Wisconsin).

What is a good road record in the Big Ten? Who has some of the better records? Just askin'...

All of those are under a different OC... Maybe Greg Davis will open it up and go all out on the road. (If he has coaches permission)

I'll look, but i can almost bet money that in the last 5 years NU, Wisky, Nebby, tOSU, PSU have better road records. But the devil is in the details.

Most could probably claim more than 3 wins on the road against teams that finish with 8+ wins in 8 seasons.

Until Vandy proves he can win a true road game my money is against Iowa winning on the road!

We're just Iowa, we don't get 5 star recruits dontcha know? It is cold here. We have a small state population. (Mind you Oregon could have said all of this 7 years ago)

We just need a system that attracts the 5 star recruits. Its that simple. :)

no doubt, if we would just "mix it up" and "spread it out" and "try sccrraammmbling" with the QB, and recruit better talent....no doubt the recruiting classes would get to '05-'06 level....oh....wait....those 4* classes were busts.....but that's on the coaches too....

Oregon is a great example of a small state...oh wait....Phil Knight.....

Some people just can't accept reality....well...that's fine....be miserable.

Goods - I just re-read this....too be clear...I am with you and my sarcasm didn't come through well in the post....

I will go out on the limb and say that Iowa probably has the 2nd or 3rd best record on the road in the Big Ten over the last decade. They are second in total Big Ten wins over that span,so who is a lot better. OSU obviously, and maybe Wisky...and that is it.

It is hard to win on the road in our league, unless you are OSU. This makes you puke? Try being Michigan( winningest all time college football program) or PSU.....we have more road wins than either of these teams over the last decade.

I'd be interested in seeing how many B1G teams truly play well on the road. By no means do I think that Iowa has had success, but as difficult as road wins are in the B1G I'd love to see the numbers. Most coaches seemed genuinely thrilled with a road win regardless who its against in conference play so I'd be curious to see if facts support the claim about how difficult it is to win on the road in this conference.

MSU is a very good team, but we can beat them... Even on the road... That said, our road history is not the best, I chalk it up to a CURSE cast upon us! Some kind of Road Trip Voodoo!!!

This argument starts to fade after this season, as the great 3 year run from 2002-04 falls off the decade win total.

Michigan is 22-22 in road games from 2002 - present. Included all road games, no bowl games.

Includes, arguably, Michigans worst stretch of football in history, under Richrod.

7 of those road losses were to teams that ended the season with losing records. It's losses like those that cause fans to gnash their teeth, most recently the 2 Minnesota losses.
