Our defense is fast, does that mean more blitzing?

Blitz or no blitz, let's just stop getting SHREDDED by jNW

Yes but, we should be able to win those games only giving up an average of 18 or 19 points a game (which is what we have given up over the last several years) you would think…..

I do not believe the D is going to Blitz alot. My main reason is the
inexperience. We are replacing 7 starters from last year. They need to get a feel for the base D before they start going blitz happy.
Blitz the 7 new guys and the let the experienced fellows drop back cant be that hard to understand hit the QB for the noobies.:p

On a serious note though, no there wont be anymore blitzing that the usual situationl blitz we will see approximately 15 times the whole season.

Iowa may not give up a ton of points but they allow offenses to really go on long drives and milk the clock..which in turn, puts a lot of pressure on our offense to score on nearly every possession.

I suppose, but if you limit teams to less than 20 points you should win most of those games….I honestly don’t have too much issue with Iowa’s D vs any offense….

Iowa has some good DEs between Binns, Alvis, Daniel, and Forgy. I'm not concerned about getting quality play from our DEs.

While Daniels has developed into a darn good player for us, my bigger concern is the interior of our DL. We not only need production from them ... but we also need them to help keep guys off our LBs.

I would largely expect more zone, less man coverages and virtually no blitzing. Why would you blitz more with less experienced players than what you had in 2009, for instance. Blitzing requires other positional players to alter coverages and assignments.

I would expect to see a fairly vanilla defense with an emphasis on maintaining weak side contain with strong side support of swarming the football.

Given the greater experience of our LBs, combined with the fact that we have nice depth and experience at CB .... IF our safeties can play with some consistency ... then I don't think that negates the possiblity of increased blitzing.

I really do like the talent-level of the guys we have in the secondary ... the bigger issue probably is just how green the safety-play will be early in the season.

A secondary manned by Prater, Lowery, Castillo, Hyde, Miller, and Bernstine ... makes me very comfortable about the group.
