Ott to NCAA: Two weeks or I'm gone

If Ott played in the SEC or for Ohio State do you think it would take this long? I didn't think so. I think Ott needs to apply for Social Security now. The government might start asking the NCAA for advice.

I can't help but think of the Jok situation and he is just one of many players taking advantage of a recent change in the NCAA that benefits the student athlete... But damn on the flip side what a joke this process has been.

As someone who's forced to deal with the guvmint on a regular basis, let me assure you that it's no walk in the park; however, I'm pretty sure that I'd rather deal with Uncle Sugar over the NCAA any day, because with Le Gov there's at least the pretense of some kind of institutional accountability.

Not much, but some...unlike the NCAA cabal, which possesses none.

God bless Ed O'Bannon et al for suing those lecherous ba$tards.

The NCAA is an unaccountable, arbitrary cabal, run through with hypocrisy and conflicts of interest.

The major conferences should tell it to go F itself, and relegate it to policing Division III.

100% agree.

NCAA long ago lost its way. It no longer even pretends to operate for the benefit of the student-athletes.

It now operates to sustain itself, much like some of the government. And it has almost no accountability to itself.

I do support the notion there needs to be some sort of oversight on college sports or the cheaters will spiral out of control.

But the NCAA, in its current form and actions, certainly is not the answer.

You just described the teacher's union (NEA) to a tee

Really, you folks are that pizzed at teachers. Man, something bad must have happened when you were in school or when your kids were in school.

If you think teachers are overpaid , you are nuts.

Apparently, you are uninformed. That was clearly not a dig at teachers. Most would agree that teachers are underpaid and underappreciated.

The basis for the NEA is sound, but the way they operate is a joke. If the NEA actually did their job we wouldn't have nearly as many education issues as we do. They defend people that have no business teaching to begin with. The biggest reason teachers still join the NEA is because they would otherwise have zero support from anyone else in the event of a lawsuit. Teachers aren't required to join the NEA, but put themselves at risk if they don't.

Did you EVEN see what I was quoting? it had ZERO to do with money and EVERYTHING to do with "unaccountable" and "sustaining itself" as its primary mission.

Off topic, but so on point.

Not really so "off topic" when you think about it. Who complains most about intercollegiate athletics? Who seeks to ban it at schools, or take down coaches, or rank on players for each and every issue?

Athletes? Nope. TV/media folks? Close, but alas, not very close at all. Professors and admins? There ya go!

Do coaches get 'tenure"? Athletes? Nope.

Professors (even if/when they suck)? Yeppers.

But again, that isn't even the big issue. The big issue(s) with the NCAA is(are) "consistency" and "accountability". We'll hold off on opening that nasty-a$$ can of worms some folks call "integrity". Other than to say, "The NCAA consistently lacks accountability and integrity".
