OT - Your favorite Beatles song

NC nailed it right out of the blocks.

Some favorite lyrics from other Beatles songs: You got to admit it's getting better, it's getting better all the time (it couldn't get much worse) - I heard this is on Barta's playlist right now.

Wearing your high heel shoes, and your low neck sweater, get back home Loretta - pre-music videos, that conjured up some nice images for a young kid back in the day.

John Lennon was way ahead of his time...he was a pioneer in using his forum/medium to exact change and really set a precedent for others to follow. I also wouldn't want to be the focus of his ire. Here's a little ditty about Paul McCartney during their falling out.

So Sgt. Pepper took you by surprise
You better see right through that mother's eyes
Those freaks was right when they said you was dead
The one mistake you made was in your head
Ah, how do you sleep
Ah, how do you sleep at night
You live with straights who tell you, you was king
Jump when your momma tell you anything
The only thing you done was yesterday
And since you're gone you're just another day
Ah, how do you sleep
Ah, how do you sleep at night
Ah, how do you sleep
Ah, how do you sleep at night
A pretty face may last a year or two
But pretty soon they'll see what you can do
The sound you make is muzak to my ears
You must have learned something in all those years
Ah, how do you sleep
Ah, how do you sleep at night

Twist and Shout
or
I Saw Her Standing There

Those are 2 amazingly simple songs that helped define rock and roll and live energy from the stage.

I agree with this. These are my favorite Beatles songs along with "A Day In the Life" and "Birthday". While I don't consider myself a huge Beatles fan and also feel they are overrated, I do like many of their songs. Having said that, I really feel that people need to have been alive and remember when they were popular to fully comprehend and appreciatethe influence they had on pop culture and music at that time. I myself was born long after they were together so I can't say that.

I love these overrated comments. LOL. You have to take into the account the time...the 60s, rock and roll at it's infancy. Their was no album like St. Pepper in 1967 from a sound, production quality, and concept. There has not been a band that generated this kind of popularity and attention since. It was a phenomenon. At their concerts, all the seats were filled with urine after these young girl's pissed themselves during the show. They had talent beyond the pop phenomenon. The reality is that Lennon McCartney are the most prolific songwriters in history. But, sure, they were overrated.

Imagine by John Lennon might be the greatest song of all time.

Greatest song of all time? I don't know about all that. I do like it though. It is like 'Hotel California', great tune, but the greatest song ever? To this day I still don't know what 'Hotel Calfornia ' is about.

I have always assumed Hotel California was about the self proclaimed "greatness" of the Hollywood and California culture.

My guess was that it was a song about someone tripping over pyschildelic drugs......who knew it wasn't that deep. :)

I believe that is correct. I remember a documentary that touched on it.

Not sure if this is the same one...but good.

The fact that you feel so inclined to defend them proves how overrated they are. Do you really think the most commercially successful band in the history of music needs to be defended? They don't. The success this band enjoyed eclipses the success of absolutely every other band to have ever existed. By defending them from their detractors as if they still deserve praise and credit (they've received enough of those), you are only making people hate them more. The Beatles are definitely overrated. Successful, influential and a major popular culture staple, but very, very overrated.

Named my first son Jude after the song it's one of my all time favorites. Also on Abbey Road track 9 -15 blows me away how all those sounds run together perfectly.

Favorite band of all time is probably Zepplin or the Beastie Boys. I'm over 30 and mostly listen to talk now.

I can appreciate the Beatles in that they paved the way for a lot of the bands I like, the same with a guy like Elvis, and not particularly enjoy listening to them.

I couldn't agree more with your statement about the Beatles. I honestly say the same thing when anyone asks me why I don't like them. They are important to the history of music and they were a huge influence, but that doesn't mean I have to like them.

I used to joke with people and give them a hard time if they didn't like similar music that I do, but I've come to realize it doesn't matter. Listen to what you like and who cares if people like it or don't. Reminds me of people and how religious/not religious they are. I'm fine with people's beliefs, just don't try to shove them down my throat and then get pissed if I don't agree.

Spare me the psycho babble abacus. I feel like Spicoli talking to Mr. Hand. "So what you are saying is that if I defend Kirk Ferentz from his detractors, they will only hate him more?" Rising to the top of any profession is fleeting (ok, maybe for everyone else but Nick Saban), but calling them overrated for getting there and influencing music and culture the way they did is a little silly don't you think? People can like the music they like I don't care...but you have to respect their achievements regardless of your personal feelings toward their music.

I respect their achievements. I said so in my post. They get the praise because they're pioneers, but their music is simple four chord crap that little kids learn when starting to play guitar.
