Sorry, I know this belongs on the OT board, but I don't have permissions to post there for some reason. Anyways, I'm considering a job in Wichita, just wondering if any of you can tell me a bit about the city; things you like, dislike, etc.

Thanks in advance.

It's shocking.

Seems like a decent enough town. In the downtown part of the city there's little to nothing going on, at least on the W/E. There are some cool liitle museams downtown though. The shopping lacks quite a bit compared to comparable places and KC is a fair jaunt. Quite a few living areas/neighborhoods are segregated areas that havae a country setting to them. Some decent restaurants and a fair number of QT's (Love QT). I have yet to find a decent pizza in the town though. If you want specific information let me know. My sister and brother-in-law live there.

I lived there for a couple of years. It is horrible for restaurants. Everything is a chain. Very, Very Windy!!! Not much to offer. I would never move back.

I know a guy that lived there for awhile. Said he absolutely hated it. He liked Iowa City. He lives in New York now and loves it, if that helps give you any perspective.

I've been to almost every city in the lower 48, but never Wichita. A buddy of mine from the KC area said that this was would be an appropriate postcard. Have not heard good things, my friend.

Go to the drug store.
Buy some laxatives
Go eat mexican food loaded with hot sauce
Take a picture of the toilet.

Lemme guess CAAR...another tired, cliche'-reliant lib? There's not a state/county/municipality in the Nation that has "reproductive laws".

Actually, no, I am what I would call a moderate. That means I don't watch Fox News or MSNBC and try to make political decisions based on what I think is the best policy, not by what team I support.

Now, saying this, Wichita is most known across the country for being ground zero in a certain political fight. That is just the way it is. It is kind of like Iowa and corn.

Since I am not really one to have a dog in that fight, I may have used a code word that would get the hackles up of someone who does have a dog in that fight without knowing, I didn't mean to, I just didn't think a certain word was appropriate in this forum.

But as far as the law thing is concerned, this is from an article in the NYTimes
"After enacting numerous pieces of anti-******** legislation this year, the state recently denied licenses to two of the three remaining clinics in the state, down from 15 two decades ago."

So, basically, that was my very tame attempt at off color humor.

All I ever needed to know about Wichita I learned from "Planes, Trains and Automobiles"

************************
Neal: "So, you're saying I could be STUCK in Wichita?"
Del: "No, I'm saying you ARE stuck in Wichita!"

(Later)

Del: "Well? Welcome to Wichita!"

(And still later)

Del: "While you called home, I called the Braidwood Inn"
Neal: "I missed that one..."

(12 to 15 hours later)

Owen: "Train don't run outta Wich-it-TAW....less'n yer a hog er a cattle...PEOPLE train runs outta S-S-STUBB-ville!" (snarkhoffle sound)
