Most of you know that LeBron James became the NBA's all time leading points scorer last night, surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

But did you know the circumstances surrounding the night Kareem set the record? It was vs Utah in 1984. The man who scored the first basket after the record? None other than Iowa color commentator Bobby Hansen. Hansen was also the player that Kareem scored the record on, hitting a sky hook over Bobby on a defensive switch.

I'm pretty sure putting Bobby Hansen on Kareem violates the eighth amendment against cruel and unusual punishment.

A YouTube video has surfaced showing that Hansen was nearby, but Kareem didn't score it directly over him.

But zone defense was illegal back then in the NBA, and mismatches like that occurred all the time on switches.

Bobby WAS guarding the player who fed the assist to Kareem, Magic Johnson.
