OT: Site Feedback re: game chat

Sorry didn't know where to put this. I think the game chats have the potential to be pretty good, informative, etc...

However last night was the first time I'd been over here for a game chat in awhile. The imposters ruined it. I'd like to see you guys look into something that would eliminate that.
 
Last night was the first time we ran into ******** posing as other guys.

I know that I can integrate Twitter and make it that you have to log in with your Twitter account - I'd like to not alienate those that don't have a Twitter account either. Right now I don't have a way to integrate it with our HN logins. I will get w/ Jon to see about the chances of getting something done.

I know a lot of people like the chat, it's a lot work for me, but I will continue to do it if people are going to be a part of it.

I gotta think there's someway you can do it. HaLo has a cool chat function. I'm wondering out loud here but if you make it so only your log in would work, you wouldn't have to authorize every comment?

couldnt make the chat last night. what exacly happened?
 
Spank, that twitter login might not be a bad idea...most people don't post anyway. Were you using the CoverItLive software?
 
We will be migrating away from vbulletin soon, to xenforo software...I will look into the chat functions they have

There were comments made by some folks who copied user names (like mine) to post under. Happened to HawkeyeShane as well (and others). I tried to ignore it but felt I had to post one time that the previous comment was not really from me. I know Stormin' felt bad and tried to do the best he could. Most folks understood.

bottom right hand corner...there is an always available chat module that you log in with via facebook connect...but I also think there are modules that integrate with your message board login, too

wow talked about doing something pointless. those people have maturity issues and are just a waste. really if that is someones choice of messing with someone it is lame.

I didn't notice that at the time, Woody. That is over the line.....

Remember Shane mentioning that he didn't want to be identified with certain comments.

Sabotage at its worst.....

Yeah. Sad when someone solid like Shane has to mention that. I only had one comment, but it was political and I didn't want someone thinking I would do that in a chat. Again, Stormin' felt very bad and did his best. Overall, it was fun and lively.
 
I hope I don't need Facebook or twitter to log in to our chats. That would be a bummer. I would not use those chats anymore.

We'll see. I'd rather find software that integrated with our software logins, and it seems there are options for that with our future software.

I am getting antsy to make these changes, and will probably do so after signing day instead of waiting until April
 
Sweet. I like chats during games. HaLo chat is like a bunch of giuys just sitting around heckling the home team, but you gotta remember why HaLo was founded in the 1st place.
 
These chat clients I am seeing are free for all chats, which have drawbacks. But we'll test a few of them out and see how it goes. They may just turn into something where they are user moderated...a few people who want to 'host' the chats can have the ability to clean up messes, etc.

Some folks have not liked the moderated chats we have done during football games, but there have been over 2,000 people in some of those chats...and over 7000 posts made...I can guarantee people will not enjoy that level of free for all. It's like mixing a bunch of different colors when you paint..ultimately, you are gonna get nothing but black on white paper.
