OT: Pearl to be charged with unethical conduct

Is there any more toothless tiger than the NCAA?

Mixed bag. The Sampson incident at IU really wounded that program.
Deon Thomas affair hurt the Illini.

But, UConn seems to not miss a beat.
Tenn? We will see,but somehow I think they will stay good.

Seems like the real outlaws weather the penalties...like USC...just fine.
Cheating does pay in the end, it seems.

Mike Hamilton has brought an absolute ton of money to the Tenn. program. I would say that the likelihood of him being let go is somewhere between 0 and .01%.

The news about Pearl is old news just being rehashed. These aren't new allegations, just the release of the investigation that has been going on for about 2 yrs now. Pearl paid his penalty to the school ($1.5 million per year pay cut) and to the SEC (8 game suspension). I don't think there is anything else the NCAA can or should do....unless they want to make a point.

What is really killing Pearls rep right now is the Deon Thomas fiasco that happened while he was at Iowa. The coaching circle and the NCAA has never forgotten about that incident. Pearl has always claimed to be above board, honest, blah blah blah and then the dude turns around and has high school kids at his house for BBQ and drinks.

Never put yourself on a pedestal lest you want to be knocked the f down hard.

If that is the worst thing Peral has done then good for him. I'm 100% sure other schools in that same conference are doing worse. The NCAA is spinless and all they care about is the allmighty dollar. Pearl has payed the price so far, the NCAA can add on if they want to and for what..............giving some kids food and a drink? Please!!

It's not that he had the kids over to house for the BBQ. It was that he lied to investigators on several occasions denying the incident happened. The actual infraction would have received a slap on the hand. The lying is what is getting him in hot water.

So what is worse, lying to the NCAA about the situation or giving cash money to players or families or anything else you can think of? Bruce got caught lying that is for sure but if the NCAA wants to they could catch other "major" violations but they don't want to ruin their bottom line.

You've heard it said it's never the crime but the cover-up? Bruce is in deep sh!t not because he had recruits out for a BBQ at his house but because he lied about it to the NCAA and apparently encouraged others not to be truthful. I think Stew Mandel is correct that he'll either resign at the end of the season or be fired later.

If the ax doesn't fall until summer, when the hearing will be held, or later, Tennessee could find itself in some difficulty next season.
