OT: Kevin Coble will not return to Northwestern

Wow, I would be super ****** if I was on that team.

Really? He's doing it for medical reasons. That is too bad, as much as i have come to dislike NW, i wish luck. Its better that he can walk without pain for the rest of his life than to play college basketball.

It made it seem like if he played his foot situation could get extremely serious...play one season for NW and walk messed up for the rest of your life, or just call it a day and keep your extremities in good shape. I think his team will understand they're fart smellers...

It is a shame, NW was a lock for the NCAA tourney for the first time with Coble. NW has a good core coming back. You had to suspect something was up during the season when NW had a home game, but he was in the BTN studios analyzing the game. Really a shame, he was such a quality player.

Maybe he's getting some work done on that enormous adams apple.

I guess all broken bones in the foot are not created equal...big blow to NW's hopes to break that tourny drought. Iowa did beat them at CHA last year in a bit of an upset, and now, I think we can do it again. We need wins wherever we can get them next year.

Agreed...they were gonna be a seeded NCAA team if he could have come back healthy.

As opposed to an undseeded NCAA team? They still have a nice core returning but Coble would have made them a borderline top 25 team. I like Carmody and think he's a very good coach, tough loss for them.

Goodman made it seem like he may be a less than great teammate.

Why is this such a big blow? He didn't play for the first part of his sophomore year and he missed all of last year. Sure, it would be nice to have the guy, but it isn't like all of a sudden need to scramble to replace a main cog.

Uh, maybe because he led them in scoring in practically every game he played in and was on a pace to shatter the all-time scoring mark. Other than that no big deal.

Coble was 2nd team all conference as a junior before he got hurt last year and sat.
Probably would be like the Hawks losing Brunner before his senior year...not a big deal at all, right?

That really sucks. I have always liked Coble's game. My friends always gave me a hard time for liking him so much, but he was pretty fun to watch. Just by looking at him you wouldn't believe he could do some of the things he did. Always thought he was hugely underrated.

A huge blow for Northwestern but Coble would have been just the icing to the cake. They almost made the dance last year without him. So with the players all having another year of experience I still believe that they will be dancing come March. If not their season should be considered a failure.
