OSU/USC Scholarship Reductions

With the way both of these schools are recruiting right now do the scholarship reductions imposed by the NCAA really punish these schools? I know the bowl bans sting, but the loss of scholarships don't seem to have any impact at all. Am I missing something?

I don't think the penalties will have a huge impact. USC over recruited last year to build up depth for the years that the limits are in place.

USC's scholarship penalties were some of the most severe in a long time by the NCAA. I'm not sure what exactly OSU's penalty was, but if I recall, I think it was less punitive than USC's.

Scholarship reductions alone won't hurt the big dogs like USC and OSU...television and bowl bans in conjunction with them would be ideal...and you're correct, Golfer...USC's punishment was a lot more harsh than Ohio State's.

O$U got a slap on the wrist. One year bowl ban and the loss of 2.5 scholarships a year for three years.

USC got hit hard and you'll start to see it now. Two years bowl ban was good, but I think they lose 10 scholarships a year for the next 3 years

OSU really didn't get anything any other school couldn't survive. Iowa could get that same penalty, and be the same Iowa team IMO. You gotta hit them were it hurts. At least two years bowl ban, at least 5 loss of scholarships per year and reduce contact hours for recruiting.
