Orange Bowl Reps Last Night

larry gautier was there...his third trip to Kinnick. He loves Iowa and the students were giving the bowl reps a big round of applause. Cap One reps were there too.

Larry and I were talking about last December when he was in Des Moines the day of Snowmageddon. He left DSM that afternoon, got behind a semi and went 15 mph all the way to CR airport...6 hour trip. He said that Kirk called him after learning he was making that drive...and he asked him what in the world was he thinking ;)

How do you go about getting a job as a bowl rep? Must be some serious cash there if they are visiting teams on the first week of conference play. BCS seems like a pretty shady deal.

I remember Keith Murphy saying he tried to talk Larry out of making that drive but couldn't.

Three of the Orange Bowl reps stopped by our tailgate and talked a while. Great guys and said they love coming to Iowa. I asked why they are starting the travel so early and they said they travel EVERY weekend to some game / team. They started out with ACC teams since they have the automatic tie in.

Also said they wanted to thank the Hawk fans in person for traveling to the OB last year!

If anyone sees these BCS Bowl Reps, tell them to get the dates of the games changed. If they want people to travel, you can't do it on Mon, Tues, Wed night following a long holiday. Do it the weekend before or wait until the following weekend.

Very easy to become a bowl rep just make a donation to whatever organization is behind the bowl game and does all the work for bowl game. For an example for the Cap One bowl you just have to be a member of the Florida Citrus Sports and attend a class and you are a bowl rep for that bowl game.

Sounds great. Now we just need to do our part and win the rest of our games, or at least 6 of the last 7. :D

Back to back BCS trips would be sweet.

Any of the January bowl games would be great games for the Hawks and their fans: Rose, Orange, Sugar, Fiesta, Cap One, Outback, Gator, Dallas Classic (in the Cotton Bowl?).

All great games.

Take them one game at a time and hopefully there will be a January game at the end of the road!!!

Any idea on how one gets the gig of "bowl rep"? It seems to me all they do is fly around on weekends to watch great college football games. Is there some sort of certification I can get at Kirkwood?

No just need to make a donation to whatever local group handles that bowl. For an example Cap One bowl just donate and attend some meetings and you are a bowl rep. Just have to be a member of the Florida Citrus Sports and that is it.

The Cap Bowl also requires you to pay for your member jacket plus game transportation/accommodations. Then you just give a short game/atmosphere update which you can teleconference in every Monday morning.

Ricky Sanzi loves the Orange Bowl almost as much as he loves America.

You have to pay for your transportation and tickets (although I think the FCS will help securing the arrangements). IIRC, Steve Hogan is the only FCS person who does NOT have to pay for his trips (logical, given he is the Exec Dir).

Oh, and you have to be going to a game with FCS bowl tie-ins :)

That is correct you pay your own way, and FCS does help with arrangements and tickets.
