hc - ferentz

oc - open
qb - open
rb - erb
wr - campbell
te - johnson
ol - open

dc - parker
dl - morgan
lb - open
db - wilson

st - wilson (kf made this comment not sure if erb is still splitting it with him)

oc - campbell is my main bet here. he has been around coached multiple positions and understands defense as he was a defensive back. i actually think that is an advantage as he will maybe use things he knows confuses defenses. if he gets it i could see him take te and oc and move johnson to wr.
qb - i here raih is a good coach with good understanding of the position. maybe him maybe it gets combined with oc.
ol - i go with brian ferentz. really the pedegree speaks for itself. if his name wasnt ferentz no one would think twice about it. kf wont hire his kid if he couldnt do the job. just like belicheck (sp) wouldnt have hired him either.
lb - woods has to be the best choice and he has proven himself being the interim guy twice now. him and brian would be good gets for recruiting as they are young with nfl experience.

this wont get solved quickly and i dont want it to because i want kf to take his time and pick the right guys. who do you guys think are the right guys for the open spots. hopefully i have all the coaches correct.
 
My sources, who will remain nameless, are telling me that Brian Ferentz is going to be named OC and will bring his current co-worker Bill Belichick to be the new OL coach. The plan long-term is to have Brian succeed his father and then promote Belichick to OC.
 
I think you have to hire a guy who has experience calling plays for OC. This is not the place for learning that on the job, IMO. very tough job.

Wilson/ Erb. I think that Erb actually is good with the mechanics of kicking and may work with kickers and punters as well as coordinate the return game.

Raih, Ferentz and Woods are natural hires- played here, can sell their time in Iowa City as recruits and would connect with younger players. Anyone of them could take Florida and I think that pipeline would could be a bit more re-established.

everybody learns on the job somewhere. he has been coaching a long time. i am not concerned about campbell calling plays if he gets the job. maybe someone without any playcalling experience will be less prone to falling into easy tendencies to detect. his understanding of defense and multiple offensive positions may make him more apt to using motion and packages and formations to get better matchups. much more that goes into it than just playcalling. many plays are ran from multiple formations and the success of the play is more dependent on the formation and package versus the defensive call and package.

i will correct my start: i saw that erb and wilson will still be splitting special teams. unless i read it wrong.
 
I already posted this in another thread, but I will add that Woods will be hired as LB coach in addition to the following:

David Raih will be promoted to QB coach.

Offensive Line position will go to one of two people:

1) Brian Ferentz
2) Joel Hilgenberg


Hilgenberg is now offensive quality control with packers last I checked. He has been around Iowa program for a long time. Frequently at ppractices etc.

This leaves the problem of who will be OC.

Neither Campbell or Erb are capable of coordinating the offense, at least not proficiently.

The other two are wild cards in that regard.

This is going to be interesting.

agreed. everyone learns on the job, even in their current position.

we don't know what experience behind the scenes Campbell (for example) has been given in coordinating the offense. i'm going to guess if they had guys on staff that they felt comfortable with as OC they've been 'learning on the job' while in their current position, being groomed for the next step, so to speak.

Josh McDaniel on the Pats not officially named OC but calling plays, or involved in that process was an example given on kxno in reference to Brian Ferentz. McDaniel getting HC job at 30 and Ferentz is now 28.

You run Kirk's stale, safe, predictable, play-not-to-lose scheme or you don't get the job.

And I don't need any inside sources to tell me THAT.

where is your specific knowledge that says campbell and erb wont be good at oc? you give no backing to your statement. you dont know how anyone will do until they get a chance. i am not 100% sure campbell will be the hire or a great oc but he has a shot. he has been around coached multiple positions played both ways in college. he is very intelligent and could very easily do the job.

I'm afraid you are right about this. If KF had his choice between a very good OC or another yes man he will take the yes man.

Do you even watch Hawkeye football? We ran a few end-arounds last year (2011) and threw in a reverse WR pass while up 90 against MSU (2010)!

I think Campbell is ready though. He has loads of experience, is a fantastic football mind, and he has a ton of potential. I think that if there was ever a time for Campbell, it is now.
