Open Practice: Sokol > Ruddock

After watching the open practice I came away very impressed with Sokol. Obviously Ruddock had demonstrated his skills in practices and coaches believe he is worthy of the #2 spot but yesterday Sokol looked much sharper, made better throws and better decisions with the ball. I would even argue that at times he looked better than JVB.

Note this is only my observation of the practice yesterday. I am not saying Sokol is better, only that yesterday he looked better. I would not be surprised if he is a one year starter as we transition from JVB to our next multi year starter. I also wouldn't be surprised if he took over in the event of a JVB injury. He just looks more polished and game ready, as he should.

Another note, baby face Imming showed promise with the scrubs, looked accurate and had crisp passes. Didn't know any play signals and was running limited plays but still, didn't look inept.

Imo I think sokol will be a one year wonder much like banks was. Then if rudock plays davis will use him like he used Mccoy, qb run sets and more spread. watching tape of him, he has good speed.

Impossible. Jake Rudock is the second coming...just kidding, but only a little bit. Rudock is going to be very good. He'll be, at the least, a three year starter, barring an injury to JVB at some point this year.

Sokol has three years to play two. If he starts, it should be for two years, not one (provided he can hold on to this year's redshirt).

Sokol has been overlooked by most for a long time. He was a very good JUCO QB and of course has matured more than Rudock. I wouldn't be overly surprised if he is the starter next year. That's taking nothing away from Jake. I believe he'll be the starter for two years at least. Given his level of experience, Sokol should look better than Rudock right now. Likewise, don't write off Andre Dawson at RB. I have a feeling we may be very glad to have him by year's end.

In my opinion Sokol ran the offense much better than Ruddock. I think Ruddock has more pure talent, but just needs time to develop. It should be an interesting QB battle next spring.

I think the depth chart reflects the teams desire to have back to back to back two year starters with two or three years in the program before starting. Ruddock's red shirt is gone, no need to burn Cody's unnecessarily. Break only on case of emergency.

I had the same impression & was going to initiate a similar thread. I left the practice and the two players "under the radar" that really impressed me were Sokol & Jake Duzey.

Sokol throws a great ball & seemed to have good feet & command. A Pleasant surprise for me & I'm glad he transferred. I did know he was a pretty darn good JUCO player. He was real accurate in drills & threw a nice ball with some heat on it. Just from Saturday, I had him a bit ahead of Ruddock as well. But, is only one practice I saw & not game time experience.

Duzey had some great catches. He had a couple difficult catches down the sideline. He seemed to have some good wheels for a nice sized TE & ran good routes. I think we see him quite a bit of playing time. I ranked him above Ray Hamilton. Both are good & Iowa is stacked at TE. Jake Duzey was a pleasant surprise for me & really impressed me, though!

So, will there be a decision on red-shirting Soko this year? If we need a backup, will Sokol play this year or save a year? I hope we can use Jake in mop-up work and keep Cody around for two more years to compete with Jake in 2013....just stay healthy,Vandy!
