Remember in the season opener last year when New Kirk faked a FG and got a standing ovation from the crowd? I think Iowa needs to come out with that same mentality for the entire game tonight.
You have a National stage and over 60 potential recruits in attendance - if there ever was an opportunity to show a glimpse of how electric Kinnick can be, this is it. Come out firing on both offense and defense - attempt multiple deep balls - send multiple LB's on blitz's - we have nothing to lose. We are predicted to lose by more than 20 and it might be much uglier than that if we play the same boring, predictable, lifeless brand of football that we have seen the past few weeks.
Now I fully realize that we probably come out and run 2 off tackle runs to Daniels for 3 yards and then take a sack with CJ not even leaving the pocket, but wouldn't it be a welcome surprise to come out and run 3 straight deep attempts - I don't even care if you complete them - just TRY throwing the ball downfield more than 20 yards!!
Jay Scheel has less than 60 yards on the season - send him on a go route and just let CJ bomb one and see what happens - can't be any worse than the result that we will get on a constant stream of 3 and outs for the whole game. Use the middle of the field - we saw that Jerminic Smith can do some things if you get him the ball.
Desmond has 3 regular season games left as a Hawk - put him in on a couple of offensive plays and give him the ball in space - give the crowd some reason to try to explode and give a boost to the team. Take advantage of the environment and do some things that are not expected.
At a bare minimum, run an up tempo attack all night - the players themselves (CJ, Wadley) have come out and said they enjoy running up tempo and the results have shown that the offense at least shows a consistent pulse when running up tempo.
Make it a memorable night, not a forgettable one. Change things up, show a willingness to adjust - give the fans an opportunity to stand up and cheer - stand up for the chance to be relevant on a big stage - most likely all pipe dreams - but I will keep dreaming.
