One thing we can all agree on...

Next year will be more funner

Yeah next year we get to argue about seeding. I can already see it we will all be over obsessed with the RPI (again), ILHawk will be complaining about how Iowa wins by "scrum" and should be in the NIT, Windsor will be trying to justify Iowa as a #1 seed, clicheusername will tick someone off, Jon will brag about how the season went exactly as he predicted, and someone will start a thread that we should all shut up and just worry about the next game.

I agree with the OP and IF81. It's fun to believe that we are even on the fringe of relevancy .. .. and yes .. it's a year ahead of schedule. I think if most of us are honest, three years ago we would have welcomed the NIT today. The fact that we're even sniffing the Dance today and discussing it in a meaningful manner is a huge bonus.

I, for one, am enjoying the ride!!

GO HAWKS!!!

You are right, even if Iowa ends up in the NIT I am excited about the future of Hawkeye basketball again. Licks final season was the all time low with a horrible record and people transferring out, who would have thought just 3 years later we are looking at a possible 20 win season with an outside shot at making the NCAA tournament?

I'm fully prepared to start that #1 seed debate today. If you analyze things it really is almost a given for next year.

Lmao spot on analysis.

I don't think ILHawk or Cliche make it all the way to next year.

Scheduling bad Power Six conference teams is better for RPI then West Texas A&M Corpus Cristi of Galveston at Houston.

You mean like Baylor, ASU, or Maryland? Fair to poor teams....yet more consideration for them than the Hawks at this pt.

Those teams play in bad conferences it is one thing that is working against Iowa nit for them for whatever reason...but Iowa's non-con schedule has them out at this point.

I disagree, some of those teams have bad RPI as well and usually those teams will not want to play us without agreeing to a home/away series. Iowa needs to schedule more against the mid majors that will play here for a paycheck and stay away from the low majors. If you do schedule a low major, schedule against one that you know will be competitive in their own conference, like Gardner Webb. It is those crappy teams in the low majors that are killing Iowa's RPI right now. Schedule a Southern Illinois (RPI 189) instead of a South Carolina State (342) or an Idaho (193) instead of Howard (334).

Honestly if Iowa cannot beat teams like that on their own home court then they do not belong in the big dance anyway.

They very well might have lost to those teams at the beginning of the year. They would destroy them now tho.

I know, I get why Fran did it this year and I am ok with that even if it does mean they end up in the NIT because of it. But future years they need to dial the schedule up a little bit, not a lot, just enough to where the non conference does not kill you.

I would be willing to bet the farm that I don't have that we will never see a non conference schedule like this again as long as Fran is our coach.

This is where I really disagree with you. You say play Southern Illinois or Idaho rather than the other teams...okay, why is Iowa playing those other teams to begin with anyway? There is no viable reason to play those teams whatsoever for Iowa.

I am not saying schedule four of five of those teams, just maybe one or two. Also, the point of Iowa scheduling some average to bad Power Six conferences, it isn't all bad to go on the road time and again.

There is a reason Seth Greenberg is in a TV studio, he never scheduled anyone in the non-conference and got left out of the NCAA tournament. Their argument was always but, but, but we beat Duke and UNC.

It would be nice to see Iowa not play any teams with RPI's lower than 150 when all is said and done. Also, Iowa has no marqee games on their schedule, sorry Clod fans ISU isn't a marquee game outside of the state. When all is said and done, Iowa has to change their schedule in order to not be in the position they are. Schedule a six game series with a team like Villanova, or another team of that type of caliber, what would be the problem with that? One way or the other, Iowa playing a team like that every year and having to travel would not bother me a bit. Iowa used to play teams like Duke, UNC, Kansas and Missouri...why not again?

Schedule a little bit better mid-major teams and get someone a little more marquee on the schedule and go from there. Just stop scheduling teams that the walk-ons could play 30 minutes and still win by 20, that is embarrassing.

I see no real benefit to playing a non-conference schedule that Iowa played other than racking up some wins against absolutely terrible teams. I guess is builds confidence, but that is a crock as well.
