One thing that I think has been overlooked so far this season....

We have scored in the last 2 mins of the first half or the game in all but one game. The only exception is NW, where we missed a field goal at the end of the first half. Here's the breakdown:

1. Illinois St - Field goal at the end of the first half (3 pts)
2. Iowa St. - 2 touchdowns in the last 2:00 of the game (14 pts)
3. Pitt - TD with :44 left in the first half and FG at the end of the game (10 pts)
4. NT - TD with 1:44 left in the first half (7 pts)
5. Wisc - FG with 1:03 left in the first half (3 pts)
6. Ill - FG at the end of the first half and FG with 2:00 left (6 pts)
7. NW - Missed FG at the end of the first half and took a knee at the end of the game (0 pts)
8. MD - TD at the end of the first half (7 pts)
9. Indiana - TD at the end of the first half (7 pts)

That's a total of 57 points at the end of halves in 9 games. In the past, we just don't get those points as we would be content to sit on the ball or run out the clock.

When the books are written about this season and "NewKirk", to me, this is the biggest NewKirkism of the season and probably one of, if not THE, main reason we are where we're at.

I think what is even more impressive is Beathard's play late in the 4th quarter of 4 very close games: (1) Beathard leads Iowa to two late TDs against IA St. after being tied 17-17 in the 4th; (2) Against Pitt, Beathard leads us to the game-winning field goal late in the 4th; (3) Against Illinois, holding a slim 23-20 lead, Beathard leads us to two consecutive scoring drives late in the game to win, 29-20; (4) Against Indiana, holding a tenuous 21-20 lead, Beathard takes us down the field for two long scoring drives to win the game. He is a very poised QB!

Obviously, Greg Davis and Brian Ferentz deserve a ton of credit as well. The entire offense looks better so far in every phase of the game. Surprising and amazing improvement....hope Iowa can keep it up!

how the hell did you find that? I was going to volunteer to rewatch all the games to find out

You can go to the ESPN site, to the Iowa Football page and get each game score, stats, play by play. From the play by play you can figure out when each team scores and compile the times when Iowa is ahead or behind. At least that's how I'd do it.

It is still interesting that KF has the hawks take the ball at the beginnings of games when they win the toss. Most coaches still like to defer and in some of those cases they end up with the ball just before halftime and can score then they get the opening kickoff and if they score again that is huge.

I know KF wants his offense to score first but when you have a dominant defense many times you can kickoff and get a three and out and good field position to boot, so to speak, after the punt.
