If you were a top talent, would you rather play for Iowa or Kentucky?
It isn't that complicated...really
To me that's a pretty big personality trait to ascertain from recruits. Most of the 5 star kids have been treated as such since they were in 7th or 8th grade right? Those kids for the most part have been coddled and treated like royalty so they are more apt to want to be on as big of a stage as they can get. Well not so much in DJs case his stock has just skyrocketed over the last year or so tops. I didn't know who he was prior to last hoops season. So it's just hard telling if say an offer from Duke or Kentucky would just automatically flip him. Feels like a maybe at this point... We may or may not even find that out. Those schools would have to offer first.Depends on if you're an Iowa fan or not. Or if you would rather be a big fish in a small pond or a small fish in a big pond.
The more I have thought about it, its a tough call.
Scenario 1, go to a blue blood and only make it to "contributor" status vs "star player", but have a chance at playing in a final four or NC.
Scenario 2, playing for a school like Iowa, being a "star player" being the difference that took them to a league title and maybe elite 8 type finish.
Look at Grayson Allen (#28 recruit in 2014), he wasn't ever the super star on Duke's teams, there were always 1 and done lottery picks around him. (Jabari, Okafor, Ingram, Tatum) But he got a NC, and ended up getting drafted in the 1st round, after 4 years of playing at Duke. What would have happened if he went to Florida/FSU instead...He did however make himself a legendary Duke guard, who will be remember for being a poor sportsman, just what ever athlete wants to be remembered for.
Totally agree. The one thing I bet most of us fans can agree on is that this recruiting class and next season feels like quite the cross roads for Fran and the program.I just think that an elite 8 is already a significant leap from where we are or have been recently. But you are right, it could snowball into bringing in other big time recruits and then who knows where the program could be headed. And missing out on him could snowball the other way too.
