On the bright side

And the nation gets to see the Iowa offense debacle at its finest.
This will not help our recruiting.

-15... Hawks win the West avg score 22-14.
Hoping Beth has balls and Bri has integrity to honor the bet. Especially after a 30+ to 3 drubbing in B10 title game.
1 Ferentz down, 1 to go.

It will seem strange when Kirk finally leaves. He is part of a legacy along with Hayden Fry’s legacy. That’s a life time of football. A lot of good football and memories. I can’t help but wonder if after so long if any person in any profession can start to become too comfortable over time. It is natural to set the cruise on at a comfortable setting. Twenty-five years is a long time for any coach in any sport to maintain a hunger and strong drive for constant improvement.

People are human after all and if you press too long for too hard you will eventually burn out. Overall you strive to maintain at a level that is consistent and puts you in a position where a break or two or a couple exceptional players can put you over the top enough that once in a while you achieve something really special.

Kirk has done very well for many years. Hayden did the same until he got older and had to deal with medical problems. They both deserve a lot of credit for their many years of good solid football. I am thankful for their efforts.

The last two years before this one have been difficult to watch especially on the offensive side of the ball. It’s unfortunate that this offensive lull is happening while Kirk’s son is the offensive coordinator. Some will suggest that since Doyle left we just don’t seem quite the same.

I am not sure I buy that but I will say that ever since we had a bunch of players get sick from being pressed so hard that multiple lawsuits were filed and settled that we just haven’t been quite the same after that. Justifiably so as the University likely didn’t need that to have that happen again and likely took steps to make sure it didn’t.

So maybe if that is the case then it’s possible that any limitations may be affecting the program’s performance. If that is true what is head scratch is why would it seem
to affect just the offensive side of things.

I hope things can get figured out and changes made that can resolve what has happened the last few years with our offense. I keep hoping that we will reach a point that we get over the hump and look strong on both sides of the ball. This game was just an exceptionally poor game. The good news is that we shouldn’t see a team as good as Penn State the rest of the season unless we win the West and play the East champs. The bad news is that Penn State isn’t even the best team in the East. They are not even on the same level as Michigan is. That’s scary to think about.

I still want to wish all the players and coaches the best of success, and this includes Brian. However tonight’s loss was incredibly hard to watch. I was hoping after our last win that maybe our offense was turning the corner. Unfortunately we turned the corner and ran into a brick wall.

Worse news is some pretty damn good pac 12 schools will be here soon! If we played Oregon last night do any of you think that score would have been as lenient? Guarantee it would have looked like Georgia playing TCU championship game.
I hope you’re wrong. I think you’re right.

Has there been a worse loss since Hayden came to town? That last B1G championship was bad, and there were a couple really shit Wisconsin losses, but I think this takes the cake.

Oh come on. That game where PSU murdered us when BOB was coach was way worse than this one. Arizona State in 04 was way worse and O'Keefe fixed the offense with the new starting QB and we won the conference (the last time we did it) with our sixth string tailback. The Hawkslayer Bowl was way worse. The Rose Bowl against Standford was 35-0 at halftime.

You are just suffering from a really bad case of recency bias.

I have recency bias.

While past performance is never a guarantee of future results...
The offensive performance under Brian Ferentz for over a half decade looks a lot like the performance of Game Stop over the same period.

On the bright side our offense was on the field for only minimal amounts of time, which prevented Mason Richman from getting embarrassed by Chop Robinson more than he did.

Yeah, I can take it when Iowa just gets beat on the outside, but this program has been such a tire fire in the trenches, at least on offense, that it is actually getting hard to watch.

This X a gazillion!
Used to lament it was BF-Bad OC / KF-Sphincteritis / [insert any name since 2015]-Bad QB. They've all been big pieces of a rotting crap-cake for the past several years. However, the biggest turd on top of it has been the inexplicable drop off in the OL. Ya just can't play Ferentz ball without it and there's simply nothing left he can do with who and what he has.

KF / BF don't have - haven't had for several years - that key piece that could always mask the averageness of every other part of the offense.
