The good news is the B10 looks tough and gives Iowa plenty of opportunities for good wins. The bad news is the B10 looks tough and talented, so Iowa could improve and still finish in the bottom four.

Fran's lucky he got that extension & $9 million buyout. This season might be just as ugly as last year.

His video shows great quickness, with a good knack of being in the ballhandler's grill plus his coach has said he's a lock down defender. If that's what you mean, though I think it isn't.

I’m not even sure Joe plays many minutes next year. JBo and Cmac will still be around. Iowa was Joe’s on P5 offer. I think we need to temper expectations a bit here. I’m excited for his perimeter defense down the road but not sure that will be seen much next year.

The quotes about him were that he’s a bulldog and a lockdown defender. Some Iowa fans have convinced themselves that this New York PG is the PG savior they’ve been looking for all these years. I’m not even sure Joe sees much play time next year, but I do think he will be a quality role guy for us. Think Anthony Clemmons, that’s who his tape reminds me of.
There is no room for defenders on this team. Just ask Hutton.

It’s kind of funny. If you graphed our best defenders vs minutes played you would have nearly a perfect inverse relationship. I also thought Nunge would be one of the top defenders on this team (at the 4), another reason I was so ticked about the redshirt.
Get outta here with that "Iowa was Joe's one P5 offer". It's true, but it's not like he didn't have offers. He had offers from Wichita State and Dayton. The same Wichita State that has been to the Final Four and Sweet 16 in recent memory and the same Dayton that's made 4 of the past 5 NCAA tournaments.
If CJ Fredrick and Connor pan out well, we could have a significantly improved back-court next year.

Sorry for speaking the truth? Look I like Joe and I’m not attempting to knock him or say Iowa shouldn’t have got him. I’m merely pointing out that people that think he’s going to come in and be the game changer “true PG” they’ve longed for are probably going to be let down, at least next year. We are slated to return JBo, Cmac, Moss, Dailey, Weiskamp, and Frederick. It’s going to be a challenge for Joe T to even find floor time.
Joe was a late cycle find by this staff after they missed on their initial targets. It appears he was given a conditional offer to commit while in Iowa City or potentially lose his offer if he left town without committing. Good for him he chose the hawks and happy to have him, I think down the road he will be a nice player for us.
Just trying to maintain some sense of reality around here.

I'm not sure where you heard this "provisional offer" story. But It's not accurate. Not according to Joe's Twitter timeline during recruiting.

Whats strange is Hutton hasn't played a single minute this year for Northwestern State thru 3 games, but he's still listed on the roster. Not sure if he's suspended or hurt or just isn't good.
Side Note: Thru 2 games, Junior guard Andrew Flemming is averaging 11 minutes for 0-2 Lipscomb, and Brady Ellingson is shooting 2 for 11 from 3 for Drake....

I doubt Joe gets much playing time next year, for the reasons already stated. Too many upperclassmen in line in front of him. Regardless of their ability.
I'm not sure he's the 2nd coming of Isaiah Thomas but I like his recruiting highlights better than I liked Anthony Clemons highlights when he committed. I think Joe didn't get many offers due to his size. His game isn't so polished that teams would overlook that, like they did with guys like Ulis.
I have zero doubt that Fran will mismanage his playing time in favor of some 3pt shooting/no defense playing- specialist.
