Omaha LB Nick Henrich Talks About Wednesday's Iowa Visit

adam, so was fant and many other hawkeyes the past many years. we had routinely been getting our targets out of Omaha under kirk. but, this is a potential red flag in recruiting Omaha that Frost is working hard to lock down that city.

I'm not saying we won't lose out on some Nebraska kids now, but most that we've ever gotten anyways were not recruited hard by Nebraska. Fant included.

All I was saying is I'm not throwing the Bat signal over the Nebraska coach being able to sign the Nebraska kids that he wants. It certainly doesn't make him the Dabo Swinney of recruiting.

FWIW...Mosai Newsom from Waverly-Shell Rock is expected to announce for Nebraska in the next day or so

but henrich grew up a hawkeye fan. so, you need to wonder why iowa finished a (purported) 3rd behind kNU and (reportedly) WUs.

I don’t think Iowa will consistently win recruiting battles in Omaha if there’s a competent coach at Nebraska.

Iowa has done well in Omaha but that’s Husker territory. They normally get what they want there. Riley screwed up the Fant recruitment. That was on him. The majority of recruits Iowa has gotten out of Nebraska didn’t have Husker offers. Seth Olsen is one that comes to mind that did.

Initially, I thought Henrich was the type Iowa could land. His father played tennis here. He grew up a Hawkeye fan. Iowa offered early and Frost had a lot of ground to make up. Didn’t happen. I wouldn’t expect Iowa to get many Nebraska recruits Frost wants going forward.

but henrich was an Iowa Hawkeye fan and it sounds like we finished 3rd to kNU and WUs. to me, that goes beyond Omaha being a kNU stronghold.

I haven't spoken to Henrich. I would speculate that his growing up in Omaha and Nebraska's presence there influenced his decision.

I can't recall the quote you are referring to. Is it possible though that he grew up a "fan" of our body of work, beating up on his actual favorite team?

no way i can find it buried in this website with the hundreds of posts and threads about everything. but his dad played tennis at Iowa, right? the story has been he was a hawkeye fan. if you can find a quote that he did not grow up a hawkeye fan, pls provide.

I don’t see the big deal here. He likely had some Nebraska fandom growing up in Omaha. Wisconsin has been way better than us so that makes sense as well. He didn’t grow up some diehard Hawk fan as far as I know. His dad went to Iowa sure, but how much does that really mean? We lost a Nebraska kid to Nebraska who has a flashy new coach. Oh well. It’s not like he picked NDSU or something.

Lol I'm not looking up anything. I either remember something or don't. I'm actually not arguing anyways, I was just projecting an alternative perspective if the comment was as simple as him saying he was an Iowa fan.

then you either didn't read it or can't.

Brush me up on where my reading comprehension has failed here.

"I’ve heard nothing but great things about Iowa. When I was younger, they were the team I grew up watching because my dad introduced me to football,” Nick said."

First and foremost I find it hard to believe that any fan says about the team that they root for "I've heard nothing but great things".
Then he tops it with the cherry of its the team I used to watch.

I truly am missing the ringing words of fandom. We had an "in" I will give you that and the kid likely had some sentimental value for Iowa, but that is as far as I can conclude from his statements.
