Omaha in Summit League Championship

Had to go google to know exactly know who was in the Summit League. I thought Western Illinois was in the MVC, guess I learned something new.

currently down 9 at half in the opening round to the 6 seed. If they won the summit league that would be sweet but at the end of the day I dont think we're going to be able to hide behind the hideous Omaha loss.

Omaha ended up winning their first round game. Way to go Omaha! :p

Next they'll play #7 seed IUPUI who upset #2 seed NDSU. Should be a win for Omaha and then on to the championship game.

Hey that win moved them up 15 spots on the RPI, they are now ranked 128. So that helps.....I guess. :)

Don't kid yourselves - Omaha possibly winning the Summit and getting into the dance is very good for Iowa on selection Sunday.

Of course it is, hard to call lossing to a team that won their conference tournament and made the Big Dance a bad loss.

You could say the same thing about Memphis but them winning would take a bid away from a bubble team since SMU is a lock. But if they are fortunate enough to win their first game no way they are beating SMU in the semi's.

Omaha crushed IUPUI tonight and is in the championship game. The other good news is that they play South Dakota State who just knocked off the top seeded team in the tournament.

The championship game is Tuesday night on ESPN2

Sure would be cool to get their rpi to 100.

I was thinking that same thing, but I dont think its possible. Going into tonight their RPI was 129. They beat IUPUI who's RPI was 217 and they play South Dakota State next who's RPI is 185.

i think we're just hoping for a moral victory...that our worst loss was to a conference champion and AQ for the tournament.

RPI isn't determinative. Omaha gets in, and NCAA could look long and hard at putting Iowa against Omaha in the first 4. That's a story they can sell. Iowa has to prove they are better than that, Omaha has to prove it wasn't a fluke.

It's not actually a moral victory, Omaha winning it's conference tournament does 2 things for Iowa. A 18-13 record for Omaha helps Iowa's RPI more than a 17-14 one (one of Omaha's wins does not count). The difference between Iowa being ranked 72nd versus 71st is only .0003, so an opponent win could make a difference. Secondly when the committee is looking at bad losses Omaha doesn't look as bad since they did win their conference tournament and are a NCAA tournament team.

No way would Omaha get that high of a seed. If they win today they are probably looking at a 15 or 16 seed.

Omaha's RPI moved up to 125 from 129 after their win last night. South Dakota State's RPI jumped to 165 from 184.

Lunardi and Palm both have Omaha as a 15 seed now, so they're expecting them to win tonight.

Well they aren't favored tonight so Vegas isn't expecting them to win. Sure hope they do though.
