Ole' Miss Decides on Mascot

Legally they couldn't, Lucas wouldn't license AA to them.

Well maybe he'd license this one to them:

Probably in Steve King country in NW Iowa, which doesn't really help your claim that the pride is in "heritage"

nope, South Page - although that is as close to Mizzou as you can get in Iowa.

I am not defending the south - I am born and raised in Iowa, and it was a shock to me to see the confederate flag flying openly, but that being said, I have never heard a complaint from anybody but the "damn yankees" (not the Ted Nugent band ), including many the african americans that I work with. I am just comparing my experience between NC and Iowa - I personally have witnessed more racism in Iowa - although most if it was not overt discrimination, but more in the comments and jokes people say, that being said, there is a big difference between the south of Carolina and the south in Mississippi and Alabama

I live in the South and the overt racism here is way more than I ever experienced in Iowa. In Iowa it is more covert. Ever heard the euphemism "People from Chicago" in IC? That doesn't mean the co-eds from the suburbs. It means the residents around Broadway street.
