OLANSEI!

Lol he threw a WWE cross body block on the guy. The sad part is Taylor got about a foot higher than Olaseni who is supposedly a freak leaper.

This be one of those calls where you wonder what game the ref watchin. What makes it worse is they had the ability to watch the replay-and still called flagrant 2. Wasn't no flagrant there-good hard foul. And if the dum-dums they had for refs actually watched that replay they would seen that Olaseni woulda had considerably more ball on that foul if Taylor hadn't put his hand to Gabe's face.

The 89 pistons called and said that was a touch foul.... Gabe just defended the rim. The reason it looked bad was how top heavy the kid was when he took flight. When a little guy goes into a bigger guy that way that's the way his body is going to go. It wasn't that Gabe brought his arms down hard on him throwing his body like that. Seems like anytime a kid goes to the floor at a bad angle they over react.
I don't have a problem with the kid going to the rim hard. He was being played up on by Trey so he blew by him with an open lane... It was a basketball play. The only problem I have with it was the refs calling it like that. Should have been 2 free throws and play on. If that's a flagarent 2 then I see a ton of ejections happening this year.

I said the same thing to my wife last night when we were watching it. Taylor was winding up trying to make the SC top 10 and got it put back in his face. The call was complete BS and the idiot doing color on the game was completely off his rocker by saying he thought it should be a flagrant 2 from the start. Good clean hard foul at best. Bobby Hansen made reference to something like this at the beginning of the second half with Holmes drive and dunk. He said in the NBA you do that once and the next time your teammates are helping you up off the floor.

I feel exactly the same way. Gabe played it exactly as he should. It was a good hard foul to let that mofo know that you are not going to do that crap in my house. No way that it was a flagrant. Gabe could have really put a hurt on him if he intended to be flagrant.

While i dont think Gabe did anything malicious, i certainly would have hit that punk like a surface to air missile if he came down the lane that way looking for a highlight reel dunk over me.

That call was total BS. It was a hard foul to be sure but no was was it even an flagrant 1, let alone a 2. And the commentators where completely wrong in their inept assessment.

OMG. I've fouled guys harder than that by accident. Let's review the foul sequence:

1. Taylor goes up strong to the hoop, as all players are taught to do.
2. Olesani goes up to block the shot, albeit late and out of position.
3. Olesani "breaks the plane of verticality" when he tries to block the shot by reaching over Taylor.
4. Taylor extends his left arm into Olesani's face to fend off the block attempt.
5. Because Olesani gets there late and Taylor extends his left arm, both players are thrown off balance.
6. Olesani's arm comes down toward the ball but because Taylor is fending him off it doesn't get there. This action causes Olesani to maintain his balance but causes Taylor's balance to be thrown completely off.
7. Taylor lands hard and may have a sprained wrist or a broken bone in his wrist because he lands awkwardly.
8. Olesani maintains his balance but is still sore from the hand to the face (which is cut and bleeding) and forearm to the collarbone.

Game Result: Olesani gets called for a flagrant. (Again, I stress if he had got there on time none of this would have happened)

Actual End Result: Big men have no idea how to defend a slashing player going to the basket. Slashers are emboldened to go to the basket hard and throw their bodies around to get fouls.

What SHOULD Have Happened: Olesani gets called for a foul. Taylor shoots 2 free throws. Play on.

My bro in law is D1 ref. I sent him a text asking him for sure, but I sm pretty certain the NCAA changed the rule.

Yeah, they changed it. Make it easier for guys to drive and throw themselves around and let the ref bail them out. In general it's called "Sissifying the game".

Anyone have video? I only saw bits of this game due to work last night…from this site it sounds like it was not really a flagrant more like an awkward landing…on Texas site I believe Gabe at some point pulled out a shiv.
