Here's a look at our OL for next year:

Boone Myers 6'5" 250
Steve Ferentz 6'1" 220
Tommy Gaul 6'3" 277
Eric Simmons 6'2" 295
Jalen Chambers 6'5" 288
Austin Blythe 6'3" 300
Cole Croston 6'5" 250
Jordan Walsh 6'4" 290
Colin Goebel 6'5" 280
Brandon Scherff 6'5" 315
Ryan Ward 6'5" 290
Mitch Keppy 6'5" 295
Reid Sealby 6'4" 275
Andrew Donnal 6'7" 305
Sean Welsh 6'3" 285

We know the obvious top OL from this list (Blythe, Walsh, Scherff & Donnal) standout, but who'll take that next step in their development since recruiting OL has lacked in past classes for whatever reason. We've had a history of producing quality OL for the next level & recruits are picking other schools over Iowa.

2014 Recruits for OL are: Lucas LeGrand, Keegan Render & possibly Ross Reynolds.

Who'll step up for 2014?

LT - scherff
LG - donnal
C - Blythe
RG - walsh
RT - ward

possibly ward and Donnal switch spots or Walsh and Donnal switch spots. But I think this is how it shapes up. Ward will be the next great one from what I have heard.

Gaul, Scherff & Donnal will need to be replaced after next season.

I believe OL needs to be addressed in every recruiting class.

Ward will move over to LT then. Keppy probably gets the open guard spot, and RT will be filled up from the best of the rest.

Id guess that Ward, Keppy, Simmons, and Gaul push for PT

Pretty bizarre comment. OL is the one position group that this staff has consistently recruited at a fairly high level (several 4*s, a few 5's, many 3's). Almost everyone on the roster had multiple BCS opportunities, except for the odd walk-on that turns into a stud. All 4 of the guys that you mentioned, along with Ryan Ward who is going to be the 5th starter, could have had their pick of schools during the recruiting process. Goebel and Welsh also had very nice offer lists. You can't say that anywhere else on the roster, although QB is starting to shape up that way.

I started a thread similar to this last week. Our recent struggles recruiting o-linemen is going to jump up and bite us in 2-three years!

I'm more concerned about WR. We've borrowed form OL, this is true, but I just can't get too concerned about OL at Iowa.

I'm also concerned about WR. Let's face it. Since losing McNutt and DJK the WR position at Iowa had been a joke, and is why Soup Campell in now in the Canadian League. However we don't have much to sell WR recruits. We have a long tradition of turning out NFL o-linemen yet we've struggled recruiting that position recently.

And at least one of those two wasn't even recruited as wide receiver. Can't remember on DJK, although I think he was a QB in high school, too.

Here's a look at out WR's for next year:

Tevaun Smith 6'2" 200
Drew Zaun 6'0" 180
Blake Haluska 6'4" 210
Kevonte Martin-Manley 6'0" 205
Connor Keane 6'1" 185
Jacob Hillyer 6'4" 205
Derrick Willies 6'4" 205
Andrew Stone 5'11" 165
Trev Hadachek 5'11" 170
Damond Powell 5'11" 180
Maurice Fleming 6'0" 188
George Kittle 6'4" 225
Riley McCarron 5'9" 182
Andre Harris 6'0" 170
Derrick Mitchell, Jr. 6'1" 190
A.J. Jones 6'3" 190
Matt VandeBerg 6'1" 170

I know Kittle is listed as an ATH on the Iowa roster. Will he be more of a WR or TE? Would like to see what Fleming can do with the football?

2014 Recruits for WR are: Jay Scheel.

Willies is going to be a stud next year ...he's the next McNutt.

I read that list, and I see a lot of guys who might be able to separate themselves over the off-season and become a high quality WR/ We've seen flashes from Hillyer, McCarron, Vandeberg, and Powell. And we've heard really good things about Haluska, Felming and Willies. T Smith came on as the year went on last year, and KMM has been mostly consistent guy year after year.

There's potential for a couple diamonds in the rough.

Tevaun Smith, Damon Powell and then if Willies is good that would be it. None of these other guys strikes terror in the hearts of anyone.

Plus they have been very good at turning low recruited farm boys in to good to great college linemen. Not to mention tight ends that have been converted into ol. One place we don't need to worry is ol. We do it different than other schools yet you can't really find a school with a better ol track record. We can also pluck juco linemen and turn them into pro bowlers.

Fleming is now a DB, not WR, unless they move him back in Spring.

Kittle is a TE similar to Duzey. Will see him running longer pass patterns. Hamilton and HKC will be the blocking TEs.
