Honestly, this fan base is incredible. There's a few of you that have turned around so fast on McCaffery that I'm surprised you don't look like a Twizzler.
Players transferring, and recruits backing out of committments happen just about everywhere there's a coaching change. Am I happy to see Fuller leave? Absolutely not, and I won't be taking "Don't let the door hit you in the a**" pot shots at him, either.
Larson is still available. He's being smart by weighing his options. You always have to account for variable change, and a new coach certainly qualifies. What was the best fit for him a couple months ago may not be the best fit now. But if he wants to talk to other schools, he needs his release from his LOI. He may find that Iowa is still the best place for him to be, but he won't know unless he does the smart thing for himself and sees how the new regime compares with other schools. And if you want to tell him to stay out if he doesn't want to be here, you're an idiot. We have no right to tell him how to live his life, and we don't get to make the decision for him as to what's best for him. If coming here isn't in his best interests anymore, I don't see why we should get pis*ed at him for not coming.
No, McCaffery hasn't proven he can recruit in the Big Ten yet. But he hasn't proven he can't, either. But so many of you seem to assume that he's another Lickliter because our best player transferred. That is such an ignorant and ******** notion that I can't even describe it. That kind of thing happens almost everywhere with coaching changes, and if that were an indicator of failure (losing players right after the change), then Lickliter wouldn't be so lonely in the unemployment line.
Bottom line is, we need to actually support Coach and this team. Because it will only get worse if we don't. Recruits see an empty arena. And it's not a strong selling point. We've got to actually give Coach some help, and pack CHA. That's a big selling point, when you can say that you've got fan support through thick and thin. But I'm not expecting that, because there are just too many people in this fanbase who think like CAAR. And that's part of the reason we're in this mess.
