I noticed the hawks played really good defense in the half court all game except on a few out of bounds plays and dribble drives where we totally left some players open for wide open threes. The out of bounds with the hawks leading by 6 with 5:30 to go in second half was a turning point as MSU inbound from by their bench, the hawks were in zone and then tried to man up and they totally lost Appling (SP?) who drained a wide open Trey. A stop and points by the hawks there would have been huge.
I noticed Oleseni was wide open on several moves to the basket on the pick and roll but we are not getting him the ball. Such a high percentage shot or dunk.
How could Valentine not be called for climbing up McCabe’s back toward the end of the game then McCabe fouls out at the other end.
Well Appling did take a full three strides and travelled on that fast break no call.
Yeah, the refs really swallowed the whistles on some late calls.
White has slowed down his free throw process from last year and it shows, and Basabe has great, deliberate form and balance on free throws and takes his time. Not so much from some other players who seem to want to get that ball out of their hands as soon as possible. I cant believe how out of balance Woodbury and even Marble sometimes look on freethrows. Widen out your stance or do something but you shouldn’t be falling into the lane after you shoot them.
Boy Oleseni gave us great energy and lift in the first half. What was the deal was he hurt in the second half?
And lastly , the way MSU plays defense they leave themselves wide open for back screens around the elbow where we could have got some easy lob baskets and layups. When teams overplay on defense that much you have to burn them on back door cuts or back screens, I wish Fran would have had them doing that some of the time.
