Ok, I have to get this off my chest

The women's tournament in Des Moines and we have chicks coming on camera stating there is nothing to do here and basically this town sucks. Really? This is the women's tournament we are talking about right? Right? News flash ladies. No one ******* cares about the women's tournament. No, literally no one. That is why Des Moines is one of the "hosts". I would rather watch paint dry and grass grow. NO ONE CARES! Be glad there is a city that actually wants to host it for the love of God. That is all.

I have to admit, I haven't watched really much of the men's tourney, to say the least the women's. I have turned on games, but they just haven't grabbed my attention. I have kept up with my brackets and am still alive and well, but that might as well be bingo.

With that being the case, I would have to say that because the men's tourney is missing that one big star OR a real Cinderella, Brittany Griner is the biggest story of the tournament season, men's or women's.

Wait, what? Apparently there's an inside joke here that I'm not in on.

I care about Iowa's women's team. Every year, I'll be glued to the tourney until Iowa/ISU gets knocked out, and then after that I don't watch much, if at all.

GoHawks: No joke. But think of it this way. Every year there is a key story that gets picked up and becomes the narrative of the tournament season. The last couple of years it was the Cinderella Butler, VCU, etc. Sometimes it is a dynasty rolling. Really, the best men's story is probably the Louisville, UK, match-up. But the thing is, the average person can't name a player on either of those teams.

Griner offers up that narrative. While you might not be impressed with her dunk, it was the best dunk in female hoops history, which has put her name out there more than any player from either tournament.

If you don't believe me, try this. Go to the water cooler at work and bring up any male player still in the tournament as a topic of conversation and see if it gets picked up. Then do the same with Griner.

Not saying its right, but when you don't have a bracket buster and a bunch of one and done players, it is hard to develop a good story.

What if they cancelled all womans sports, and with the money every fan at football and basketball games get a hotdog and a coke.

It sucks they had to say that on camera. There is stuff to do in Des Moines and when the new hotels get built down town hopefully more of the businesses will be open. I have walked through the indoor mall and it is really nice.

Look we all know women's sports is not around because it makes a profit.

There are plenty of places open past 8 on a thursday downtown just not right by the arena.

If the people here for the arena did not know where to go and what to do then that failure can be place on the city of DesMoines. No big surprise that the city feel extremely short of marketing it's self. I have tried to work with the city on marketing before and they are beyond clueless.

I have to come clean. I've watched the NCAA women's tourney (along with the men's). I have a 6th grade daughter who plays ball and she really loves the game; playing and watching. Plus I coach. So her and I have enjoyed watching the women's tourney. The games are on when the men are not too so I don't have to choose. ;) She has watched a ton of the men's tourney too. Oh and HS state boys and girls.

ya i guess court ave is boring.....if its action these ladies are wanting, mayb they should walk up 6th ave, i am sure they would find some "action" there
