OK - How Does Iowa Spank the Ranked Transfer U?

Transfer U has been getting a lot of production out of Bryce (UNLV/ISU) DeJean. Does Iowa have a player that can neutralize DeJean? Morris, an actual ISU recruit, presents another challenge. Iowa does appear to have big guys that can match up with the Cys big guys. Iowa's weakness is perimeter shooting, 3 for 20 last night against Alcorn. Does Iowa defense the perimeter to force ISU to take shots in the lane? Should Iowa on offense just give up the three point shot attempts and strictly take shots from mid-range on in. Uhtoff, Oleseni, Woodberry and Uhl are better options from 15 feet than any of Iowa's guard from 21 or 18 feet.

It's going to be a good game that comes down to the little things in the last couple of minutes. Whomever makes the big shot, grabs the big rebounds, and knocks down their free throws will likely win it.

I think people are trying to dissect this game as much as possible, and in reality it's just about executing the game plan for each team. ISU won't be able to consistently stop Iowa down low because of their length advantage. Iowa won't be able to consistently shut down ISU's ability to knock down the 3ball.

Personally, I give the edge to ISU because they have executed down the stretch better than Iowa has in recent history. Iowa was able to grind out a nice win against UNC at the end of the game so that gives me hope, but they need to keep doing it in order to prove to me that they've turned the corner.

Defend the 3. Hope they have an off shooting night. Pound it inside. Woody & Gabe give us the best chance.
The JO project is over. Shut it down ASAP.

Stop penetration and force them to depend on the outside shot...then defend with your length. This will be a really good test to see if our defense is for real. North Carolina has one consistent threat from the outside...ISU has several.

Great match up and measuring stick game for this team. Woodbury / Olesani could be the keys...and Gabe may be a huge factor...based on last night...or the past few...he's outplaying Woody.

Iowa is going to have to come into this game with a real chip on its shoulder, and play more aggressively, more physically and nastier than they've exhibited so far this season. They will be mugged, pulled, pushed, bumped, hit by Transfer U. They'll need to dish it out as good as they get.

Mike will again need to find his outside shot; he'll be stuffed down low unless he can first sell the fact he can hit from outside.

It will be a good test. Looking forward to it.

Bottom line we must shoot well from 3 pt range to win and have no 8 min stretches without a field goal. We do this, I think we win.

ISU will be doubling the post pretty regularly. From what I've seen and heard Woody has been doing well passing out of the post so if I was Iowa I'd run the offense through him and try to have him pass it to guys slashing to the basket or guys shooting from three. I know that's not Iowa's strength but I assume ISU is going to be packing it in, and I'd be attacking Niang pretty hard to try and get him in foul trouble.

If I was Iowa I'd actually play straight up on D. I know the rep for ISU is that we take a lot of threes, and we do, but ISU is top 10 in 2 pt % in the country and they have had very good 2pt %'s under Hoiberg. The key to shutting them down has been tall teams clogging the inside and not allowing deep penetration, and getting hands up on shooters from the outside.

Plus it's at home. I have Iowa by 5 in a low scoring affair, something like 75-70.

If ISU shoots it well this game is over by half the way Iowa can't shoot it well. Have to feed the post and get ISU into foul trouble. This team is going to have to use defense as their calling card because they aren't going to score much. ISU allows 70 ppg (220th). Iowa allows 55 ppg (16th). ISU averages 84 ppg (13th). Iowa averages 72 ppg (110th). So something has to give.

Every time Niang gets the ball we need someone to do this...

This is a high scoring affair for the Hawkeyes.

Agree with you on how to D ISU. On offense, Iowa needs to be aggressive and try and draw fouls. ISU will get frustrated when calls don't go their way.

Get the ball to White and Uthoff on the wings and let them take it to the basket, try to get Niang and Hogue in foul trouble.

Limit the turnovers and move the ball around; I'm not convinced that ISU can play consistent defense.
