Ohio St is boned

I hope for at least a 4 year Bowl ban. That might sway recruits away as they will never play in a bowl game. A 2 year bowl ban won't do that and they will continue to reel in 4 and 5 star recruits like nothing happended.

The TRULY sad part is that even if on probation and even with taking away a few scholarships, osu will sign the same 5 and 4 star players they would have had they not been on probation.

Even on probation osu's recruiting class will be one of the best if not the best in the Big 10, regardless of scholarship cuts. When off probation, they will just pick up where they left off...heck even the 2nd year on probation, they will probably win the their division and the second place team in the division will play for the championship, which will be an embarassment for the Big 10.

Unless the NCAA really lowers the boom, a couple of years on probation won't hurt osu in the least, except in the pocketbook and they have such a rich program and so much money, a couple of years of no bowl money isn't going to hurt them much if at all.

The ONLY thing that can harm osu is if they are dealt the death penalty and the NCAA is NOT about to that to one of their sweetheart programs.

I get SO SICK of hearing this argument. People have serious myopia when it comes to OSU. This program won the Big Ten 6 times in the 20 years before Tressel showed up. The cheater (who had a record of exactly the same thing that happened at OSU) showed up and they won 7 times in 10 years.

Take the cheater away and they come back down to earth. They will probably win the Big Ten somewhere around 30% of the time, but they are not going to enjoy the same success they did over the last decade without cheating to the same extent.

I'm a little frustrated with the whole 'OSU gained no competitive advantage' crowd. Their thought pattern is that OSU didn't cheat (in the games) so they should receive less punishment and not have to vacate games. IMO, that's wrong. I'm betting Pryor and other players were well aware of the benefits that would be made available to them, prior to committing to OSU. If those benefits were not available, how many of OSU's former and current players would have gone to a different school? The best example might be Pryor himself. He would have been a much better fit, from a football perspective, at Michigan. As a matter of fact, RR probably is still the Michigan coach if Pryor goes to Ann Arbor over Columbus. Ok, that might be a stretch, but you get the ripple affect I'm trying to describe, right?

Exactly. OSU's emergence as a superpower directly corresponds to the cheater showing up on campus. The correlation is just way too clear. They need to vacate games and they will also come back down to earth in the conference.

I get what your saying, but IMO I still think every instate recruit from Ohio would still attend OSU with or without the added perks.

I understand that line of thinking also but there's no guarantee. Pryor doesn't seem like the sentimental/faithful type when it comes to anything other than himself. Maybe USC or Auburn shoots him a better deal?.?

I agree, to a point. You can't discount the fact that Meechigan has been awful for the last 8 years. This also contrbuted to OSU dominance.

There is no way that players were choosing OSU based on the idea that they may get a car, or free tattoos.

The cheating argument is weak sauce and reeks of a massive Napoleon complex.

The area memoribilia dealers that have access to the Buckeye players AFTER they graduated, got bent out of shape because guys like Talbott and others were getting to players BEFORE they graduated and got signed items for the market.
These area dealers actually informed the OSU compliance dept about the situation, a long time ago and OSU tried to keep it in house.
This has to be the worst kept secret in all of college sports.
Herbie knew about it. Spielman knew about it. Former players knew about it.
OSU message board posters knew about it.
EVERYONE knew about it.

I didn't know about it.

Really? So Pryor goes on recruiting trips to several different schools where most talk about winning, tradition, facilities, etc. but at O$U every other person is shoving money into his hand and saying there is more where that came from if you come here - that doesn't affect his decision?

let me provide some details.
Pryor was actually stealing jerseys and gear out of the locker room, from fellow Buckeye players. To sell to that Talbott guy. When the players reported their things stolen from the locker room, the staff didnt believe them and forced them to pay for the items Pryor stole!
JT and the OSU compliance dept knew about TP and Talbott. They forced Talbott to disassociate himself from the OSU program, completely.
TP had designer clothes, hats and jewelry. Not to mention the cars.
Rumor has it that when Pryor met with the NCAA, they asked for bank records and thats when Pryor withdrew and declared his playing days at OSU were at an end.
Like he had a choice.

Pretty heavy allegations. Where are you getting this, if we may ask?

If Pryor was in fact stealing, it would help explain this part of the SI story: "Ellis estimates that Pryor alone brought in more than 20 items, including game-worn shoulder pads, multiple helmets, Nike cleats, jerseys, game pants and more. One day Ellis asked Pryor how he was able to take so much gear from the university's equipment room. Ellis says the quarterback responded, "I get whatever I want."

I hear things.

I heard the same thing on the radio yesterday. Pretty sure it was Dan Patrick's show, but not sure. Basically the exact same scenario as YT State. Tressel was good at having someone outside the program and without a direct connection do his dirty work.

It is called plausible deniability. It worked until someone sent him that pesky e-mail.
