Or, they paid him off. Gave him some cash to destroy his hard drive and PC, and get the hell outta town.
But, if they were involved in child prostitution, I don't think that adding a little murder into the fray would be against their morals.

If this was Hollywood, you'd figure that what transpired was Gricar starts looking into it, some wealthy 2nd Mile boosters pay him off....then Gricar gets greedy and starts demanding more and more...until the boosters finally decide it's just cheaper and easier to off him.
